Topic: Murano Fish Dish??

Hello there,
Does anyone have any idea what this lovely dish is and where it might be from?
It's 30cm in diameter and has been given to me.

Welcome to the message board Cathy.

I think your dish is what we would call fused glass - it was made by heating the various elements in a kiln until they fuse together instead of being blown. It can be harder to track down makers of fused glass but you have a signature which should make it easier. Just need to decipher it...

This one is on Ebay. The bubbles and the fish, particularly the eyes are similar. It says it comes from Cyprus.

It’s very hard to know for sure as there are SO many studios and artists out there!
I’m still hoping it’s Murano as the style is also a bit like this one

Cathy it is highly unlikely to be from Murano as they do molten glass into items, or in some cases use the blow torch to create beads.  Your fused item can literally be made anywhere that there is a pottery kiln.  So for example I have a fused platter from West Wyalong, NSW, Australia - a town of 2650 soe 300  miles West of Sydney.  It is a road junction.  I was astounded to find someone making glass there - but as Australian glassis the major part of my collection I had to buy the platter.  The nearest substantial town is Forbes 106Kms(65miles) away.  There is no way a glass maker could set up a furnace that far from a large population centre

I  just looked at your purported Murano link from Ebay.  There is no evidence to support their assertion that it is Murano.  Notice that my assertion that is Colombian has as much EVIDENCE as they supplied.   The Item Specifics are also fascinating. 

Glassmaking Technique:  Millifiori   Millefiori means 1000 flowers in Italian.  There is no sign of a flower shape anywhere, let alone 1000 or so.   My photo is of a typical millefiori Murano item.

Brand:  Murano    There is no Brand of Murano.  The makers are not allowed to call their items by the location name.

Original/Reproduction:  Antique Original     Antique implies it is at least pre WW2 and that item is so recent it could burn you if you picked it up.

I suggest if you are looking to buy Murano items that you join a good Facebook group that specialises in Murano.  I use '  Murano Glass/Italian Art Glass, Empoli, for GLGD. '  which seems to have good specialists.
