Newbie here. Please help with Heisey color. Thanks
« on: May 25, 2021, 07:43:11 PM »
Hello everyone, I am a very new collector of Heisey Glass.  I have two Hexagon baskets possibly no. 462.  Both measure 10.5" in height.  One is crystal clear the other is a very light purple color.  From the book I have it only lists color as crystal only.  Could this light purple color be Alexandrite or Zircon? I can't find any information about color.  Any help would be great. Thanks, Daphne

Hello the colour may have been caused by prolonged sunlight on the manganese in the glass. Manganese was added to disperse the green tinge in clear glass caused by iron oxide in the sand of the glass mix. Here is a link to a previous post.

Apparently Heisey also made light purple glass.

Thanks for the information.  Does the sun purple color devalue the piece?  I kinda like the look.  Thanks again everyone for the help!

Quite a lot of people prefer the purple pieces and collect them, but I don't think it makes much difference to the value.
