Holborn Glass Works Registration 684000 dated 09.07.1921
« on: August 13, 2021, 12:54:10 PM »
I'd suggest there is possibly an error in The Glass Association Blue Book which shows the date of this Registration as 6th July, though as can be seen in the Register it's down as the 9th, and no idea why entered as CLASS 4  -   wouldn't have thought subterfuge necessary with an item like this  -  but who knows whatever reason, and possibly a genuine error.    Doesn't appear to have been successful enough a design to warrant extension of the five year protection.    Hope this helps with the original query. :)

Thank you so much Paul.

They were only in business a few years,, so it wouldn’t have been extended.  It was the only design they ever registered.

It’s fantastic (to me.  :) )

Hi Lin  -   perhaps just for interest and to make this one a tad more useful in the way of information, is it possibly you're able to add something to the effect as to when they started and when they finished?    Funny, it almost reminds me of a design from another factory - can't think which one, but then possibly there are a few pressed bowls that look similar.               I also get this overwhelming sense that they should have been located at Holborn, London ;)

Holborn Glass Works Ltd. was set up by a group of local businessmen, in the old Edward Moore works on West Holborn, South Shields. The businessmen were Mr Charles Henry Blackwood, Mr Matthew Stainton and Mr Thomas Tindle Anderson. It was incorporated in 1920, company number 166912.

The company was not a success and went into voluntary liquidation on 7th June 1922, after only two years. The creditors meeting was held on 16th June, 1922 and the company was finally wound up in September 1925.
