paperweight inkwell
« on: December 07, 2021, 12:47:27 PM »
Hello can any of you learned people identify this paperweight inkwell?
It measures 7cm tall and just under 7cm diameter across the base, unfortunately it does not have a stopper.

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards Mick

Looks like Perthshire Paperweights.

Hi John thanks for the link very helpful, certainly looks the same one that I have. Do you think that its intended for scent rather than ink? Suppose could be used for either?

Again many thanks for your time and help, it's really appreciated.

Regards Mick

Scent, especially as yours appears to have had the inside of the neck ground for a stopper to fit.

Is the bumpy, unpolished base typical of Perthshire?
That was what stumped me.  :)

Hi and thanks for your reply and info. You got me wondering and I have been on line looking at perthshire weights and they do not seem to have bumpy and unpolished bases. Also mine does not have a P cane whereas most I have looked at do, I previously had a Perthshire weight and that had a smooth base and a P cane. Bit of a mystery, what to you think?

Best regards MIck

This is not a paperweight - different production methods will be at play here.

This is a Perthshire "PP22 Scent Bottle" - produced 1973 - 1996, but only items produced after 1982 have a P cane in the base. Unfortunately "The Complete Guide ..." doesn't say anything about the base (which it does for most paperweights).

Thanks for your very comprehensive reply, I now know all about this scent bottle and am really pleased.

I would also like to thank all who have taken the time to help with my queries on this item, its very good of you all to help and is very much appreciated.

I have collected glass items for a long time without really knowing what they are, just bought them because I liked them. I am now slowly trying to find out exactly what they are. This site is really helpful and everyone seems very willing to share their knowledge, thanks again.

Regards Mick
