Help identifying uranium geode? bowl
« on: September 07, 2006, 03:39:04 AM »
Hi,

Was told that this bowl may be Murano? Puchased from an antique store about 8 years ago. Weighs well over a kilo. Glows under black light. Inside the bowl is a very dark blue flower with gold, the gold used a lot more in the base. Measures 14 1/4cm across both sides, height 6cm. Width of edge 1cm. Every measurement matches perfectly, gives a look of being uneven but it isnt.
Is this a Murano geode bowl? Or something completely different? Any help appreciated. Its hard having a collection and not knowing where half of it is from :)

Circa 1960s or 1970s Murano glass. I've had a few of these cool things, but never seen one with a factory label. I have a friend whose an expert in vaseline glass. She swears that they stopped using vaseline in the 1960s. If you believe her, that should help date it.

Thanks Laura, so I can put a little note on it that its Murano. I had dated it to about 1950's, which seems to be when art glass was most popular over here in Australia, but that was a big guess.
So if I believe your expert friend...I can say it was made before 1960  :D
It is rather cool I think. Even friends that arent interested in my glass ooh and aah when they see it.
