« on: January 15, 2022, 11:49:56 AM »
Hi , this shallow bowl/vase is 7 cm in height with a polished pontil and three spots of wear on the areas it sits on .I haven’t come across this silvery  green colour before on older glass ? , but I think it maybe turn of the century?Ring any bells , thanks .

I thought I better do an image of the light behind , there seems to be some sort of pigment brushed on then cased , obviously I could wrong ?

I am very unsure about the shape and the thickness, but the decor in the metal itself is rather reminiscent of Clutha glass. It may be a fairly decent reproduction.

could be v. wrong, but it's makes me think art nouveau, and they, in turn, may have borrowed the shape from antiquity.       I would have thought more likely the flecks would have been marvered into the gob rather than brushed on, but we may never know.            Sorry, but I can't see the pontil depression - it's lost in the swirls/clouds ;)           Is it a v. precise and highly polished depression, or irregular and less than shiny?          How was this sold to you - with any description?

Thanks for the replies,I picked up from a flea market for a £10 ,so not much in the way of chat when you buy something Paul….The pontil is well polished , it’s not heavy, but not light either

Reminds me of a Hoglund shape - so my thoughts would have turned to possibly Scandinavian.
Nice.

looks good, thanks for the extra pix  -  I hadn't realized that the silver was a surface decoration ..................   salts ? - perhaps then you have the original piece of carnival glass ;D ;)   Can now see the depression adequately - thanks.            Perhaps for future pix a piece of dark (or white) card - to avoid the busy background - might be useful, but that last picture is good.

That may rule out Clutha.
