"Charet" (??) Perfume bottles ? Does Charet ring any bells ?!?
« on: January 16, 2022, 04:14:34 PM »
Hello All,
I have found these three perfume bottles, all signed with an engraving that I have interpreted as "Charet". However I have not been able to find any reference at all with that name. Is there anybody who knows something about Charet? I have placed this in the French glass section since that name sounds quite French, but, of course, I could be wrong.

They are moulded glass, you can see the joint at some points, and the stopper is hollow on the three items.
Sorry about the quality of the pictures...I am still struggling to find how to take better pictures of transparent glass. Perhaps with a darker background?

Thank you !!
Andrea

Possibly/probably Chalet Glass. A Canadian company. They did make clear perfume bottles.
Some are illustrated here.

Thank you, good info.
But it still does not add up: the bottles in the link are marked "Evyan" on the bottom, a mould marking. There appears to be no signature as in mine. And mine show no marks other than the engraved signature.
I was not able to find a similar signature in any of the websites or for sale items, although I did not spend too much time on it yet.
Your guess is still a likely possibility, but there is no hard proof yet... ;)
Regards
Andrea

Evyan is a perfume brand name.  :)
A glass company making PBs for a perfumery would be quite happy to include the brand name of the factory as part of the order.

What I meant is just that: there is no proof the bottles shown in the link you provided are made by Chalet. They only have the name of the perfume brand and nowhere does the seller state that they are from Chalet (although it is a Chalet website...).
But the style is also very different and the stoppers on my bottles are hollow.
In any case, based on the story of the three founders (two blowers and a glass cutter from Venice) and the other clues, I am inclined to think that probably these are very early examples of their work, before they changed their style, to adapt to the North American market.
Ciao!
Andrea

It does look like the signature says Chalet but in the link I think it’s just a coincidence that the author calls their blog ‘vintagechalet’? I don’t think there is actually any connection to Chalet Glass...they might’ve called it Vintageshed :)

Looks like it is Charet, is that clearer on the other bottle? There is one here that is described “Charet (Années 1950 - Bohême)” or 1950s Bohemia. Not sure if they’re talking about the perfume or the glass, possibly both. https://drouot.com/lot/publicShow/5129446

Edit to add the original auction page of the above link, quite pricey! https://www.coutaubegarie.com/lot/23982/5129446?search=Charet&sort=num&

:) Originally, I thought the bottles shown by the OP here might be Czech, they do look like a lot of the ones illustrated in Forsythe, (which unfortunately is an old book and the makers are not identified) but I did a quick search for Chalet Glass PBs and found that link.

I was surprised myself - I didnt think Chalet made wee things like clear PBs. I associate Chalet with large, coloured organic, often sommerso pieces.

Because of the very specialised nature of your request I am suggesting you join a Facebook Group that specialises in Perfume bottles.  https://www.facebook.com/groups/perfumebottles/about

I had forgotten to check replies for a while...in the meantime I did find a Chalet glass specialist who confirmed that these are definetly NOT Chalet. They never made any clear glass, nor any small items such as these.
The link to a perfume bottle posted by Ekimp seems to confirm the above, but it is still not clear whether Chalet is a perfume manufacturer or the glass maker...I tend to believe it is probably a perfume brand.
Unfortunately I am not on Facebook.

Andrea
