« on: February 04, 2022, 09:23:14 PM »
Hi all
I recently aquired a large amount of bagley glass and amongst them were these lovely pieces...the vase at the back is a festival of Britain celery vase

Hi - your background is very busy - unfortunately, we're not seeing the vase in the best of light - assume it carries the word Celery which seems to have been a ruse to avoid some element of what was then Purchase Tax as Celery was a domestic item rather than decorative.   Having said that it may be this situation existed only for the period 1939 - 45, and the FoB was 1951 I think, but certainly the word appears on many pieces that have more in common with vases than a pot for celery.                   The piece in the foreground also shows the FoB emblem, and a couple of the smaller items appear to show George VI  -  are they ashtrays perhaps?

This thread will probably be moved to 'British .........   :)

some nice pieces there  -  certainly the 'celery' does look more like a vase than a celery which have straight sides, usually  -  assume something like 9" - to 10" tall?     Don't think I've seen one before  -  is there a picture in the Bagley book do you know?
