Unattributed 1902 Coronation Plate
« on: May 05, 2022, 07:50:03 PM »
I have been trying to tease out commemoratives made in the Manchester area from the heap of such pieces in Victorian pressed glass, and this unattributed 1902 Coronation plate has come into view.

Manchester firm Thomas Kidd did a number of small plate commemoratives in the time period 1897 to 1901 in particular. You would therefore expect them to go one more year and produce something for the 1902 Coronation.

What I would expect based on other Thomas Kidd plates is:

4 to 5 inches in size (tick, this one is 5 inches)
Low density reading (tick, but so are plates from the northeast)
Rare (tick, do not think this one is common compared to other 1902 plates)
In the usual Kidd colours of amber and blue (no, only seen in plain to date)

In general, the styling has some similarity with other Kidd plates.

So I wondered if anyone knows of a firm attribution for this plate?
Has it ever been seen in a larger size?
Or in colour?
