Topic: X6 Unusual Faux Barrels ??

Bought these from a shop and felt they might be of some use
but can't quite seem to get to the truth for what they were or are
exactly, They all have a nice large polished pontil scar to the bases
and nicely deep ground faux barrel rings like you get on an old whisky
barrel at a brewery. The tops have two pieces that are higher possibly
similar to an old peat bucket or similar i am guessing they are novelty
any ideas on them please dims are 3" x 2 1/2" they slightly taper towards
the top maybe of significance?

I was going to proclaim "ice buckets" until I saw how small they are - I have seen glass ice buckets in this style, but obviously much much larger! And that you have a set of 6 made me wonder if they are shot glasses made to look like miniature icebuckets, perhaps for something you might drink very cold, but then I thought the sticky up bits would make drinking out of them a bit of a challenge, so my second thought was are they egg cups? Or a third thought, maybe toothpick holders - the sort you might set around a formal table for when the food is finished and the guests want to pick the bits out of their teeth?

Mustards probably. They would have had a wooden disc with 2 notches as a lid. Not sure if French or German.

I thought they might be salts but they are a bit too big, these are on Ebay but the description might be wrong.

The larger form is usually an ice pail. The smaller form, in the Percival Vickers catalogue at any rate, is called an ice cup. I have also seen this shape referred to as a custard cup.

They remind me of the drip catchers placed under taps of glass spirit barrels.

Really appreciate the answers or ideas the nearest thing i have seen so far
is glass piggin they were used to ladle milk in the dairy but as they were it seems mainly
heavy cut glass from the Georgian period and Mainly of Irish/Anglo origins i guess we maybe not
talking of those but possibly a more modern version of them or salts. What ever they are they are
certainly interesting
