Hi Everyone,
I was hoping that the Pirelli specialists amongst you might be able to help me with researching my vase. Firstly I apologise for lack of photos, I am waiting for my daughter to come round and help get to grips with resizing etc.
What I have is a largish clear glass vase that is guilded and hand painted. The hand painting design is of thrushes sitting on thistles. I was informed when I bought this vase that the seller believed it was by a Scottish famous painter of the time. I think if memory serves me correctly the name of the artist was Blackburn?? but not 100% sure if my memory is correct.
The vase is labelled with a Pirelli black label (not Scottish version). He thought that this might have been painted by this artist, as this was a known artist who did paint thrushes with thistles in a book. The only artist I could find through my research was Elenore Blackburn, a famous Scottish painter of the time. She did do a book on nature but I don't know if there is a painting of thrushes and thistles in the book.The reason I think he may have been onto something is that Frank and Angela's and others fabulous research into the history of Pirelli and Vasart, does point to blank vases and other items, being sent to Vasart for them to decorate and then sent to London for sale. Hence why it has a Pirelli black London label on it.
When I do post the pictures and by the way I am no photographer but both Angela and anyone else who wants to use the images when writing about Pirelli is more than welcome to use them. I only ask for the credit that the vase is mine.So my question is does anyone know of any artists that Vasart may have used to decorate the Pirelli object's? Does anyone like me suspect that Elenore Blackburn may have been one of the painters working with Pirelli and Vasart?Any help you can give me will help get rid of the nagging questions that plague me every time I look at my vase lol
Thanks for letting me join the board, its a great site and look forward to hopefully showing off my very mixed large collection and contributing as much as I can, as well. I love glass but I also really love researching and trying to discover more about glass, its makers and designers.
Its nice to be amongst people who are also as nuts about glass as i am lol. I am currently in the middle of trying and failing at the moment, in downsizing my collection. I have over 4 thousand pieces and I am running out of space. Some were bought when i first started collecting and are not really of any interest to me now that i have developed my passion for certain styles etc. I am hoping to reduce the collection by at least a third.
My latest purchases have been Scandinavian animals and sculpture's. Like Pukeberg, Lindshammer, Nybros and Hadeline. Something else I can get my teeth into, collect and research
;
So that's a little about me and what keeps me awake at night with nagging questions that don't go away until I can find the answers. I hope someone can help,
Take care everyone and very nice to meet you all,
Meachelle
