Topic: Heavy vintage green vase

Hi , this piece is 18cm with a flat polished base ,looks a bit sklo but I wonder if it’s Yugoslavian or similar thanks .

Looks like the Whitefriars knobbly range.

No polished pontil Ian, it’s cased in a light coloured yellow .It’s a bit like Jan Beranek pieces as well ??

I collect Whitefriars, Liskeard and Beranek knobby vases. I do love my knobbys lol.

It does look similar to my Czech Skrdlovice Jan Beranek large piece that I have in green BUT every one of his vases are different. It is the same as the Liskeard ones I have. Which this vases is definitely not Whitefriars or Liskeard.

For all three makers there are lots of size, weight and look differences but are all by same maker. I also have a smaller one by Jan in red, again if I do an eBay search the ones in red are all different. Some the red goes all the way to the bottom, others there is more clear glass appearance near the base.

I would say that your thoughts are most likely correct and it is a Jan piece. I  would take a look at eBay to see what I mean.

A base pic is always useful
Particularly how the edge of the base is finished might help...

I would think rather not Skrdlovice for this one, but wouldn't exclude it; you should find a shape / size match in the pattern books if it is.

Apart from Yugoslavia or Romania, another possibility might be the recently identified USSR (now Estonian) maker Tarbeklaas. Seems they produced quite a variety of knobbly vases in a similar style.

BTW, the attribution of anything "knobbly" to Jan Beranek is an ebay myth...

Yes, that is different to the usual base finish of 1950s/60s Skrdlovice -- the bevelled edge on most pieces from that era is quite distinctive (see pics).

I would look into Tarbeklaas mentioned in my post above...
