is this Bagley?
« on: September 14, 2022, 03:59:06 PM »
I found it in a charity shop.
The colour seems right, as do the painted flowers.
But it's not a design I've seen before.

It stands 11.5 inches tall and the base is completely flat and featureless (apart from the remains of a label).

Any help with name / number and age would be appreciated.
Thanks.

It's not typical of the sort of thing Bagley made. It appears to be hand blown or possibly mould blown, not pressed glass. The flowers don't look quite right either, I would guess Czech.

Having had another look Bagley did make handkerchief and shell posy vases which have similarities, but I still don't think yours is by them. It might also be Murano.

I don't thin it's Bagley and I think you can rule out Murano too

Thanks for replying.  I had a good look at the flowers, which at first looked a bit too glossy, but then comparing them with the better preserved bits on other Bagley vases, they are very similar.  Same glossiness and the same shades of green and brown.  I'll post some photos when the light gets better.  Is it possible that they are just newer, less worn and damaged?

A couple of photos for comparison with those on a 'Grantham' and a 'Somerset' vase.  The colours, their combinations and general treatment seem much the same on all three.  But I'm certainly no expert and don't even particularly like flowers distracting from the shapes of the vases!

It may be of the same period as the Bagley items and thus used the same cold enamels (fired enamel doesn't wear so much or in the same jaggedy way) from the same supplier (there weren't many).

Thanks for your replies.  So almost definitely not Bagley?  If it was, I might keep it, even though I don't like it much, as an example of their work.  As it's not, it'll be heading back to the charity shop so they can sell it again to someone who does like it enough to keep it.
