Something different, I've just got this fruitwood bowl with a selection of marbles, some in uranium glass, others with cadmium and probably selenium. These were probably made in America but could also be continental, I'll have to check out the marble collector websites.

  It might be a good idea to check out the kinds of marbles available in gift shops. I've tried to work out what goes in with marbles, but seeing what was in gift shops, I'm afraid I gave up. Uranium glass is being produced and made in Japan, and has been for some considerable time now, it is not, (as I'm sure you know Nev, being a uranium enthusiast) any indication of age. A "crude" sort of finish isn't either - some are just badly made.

Do try to get into places where people do know about marbles and have the right sort of eye for detecting what is right and what isn't. My eyes can't.

The two big ones definitely have some age and I don't think the others are modern. There are quite a lot similar on Ebay, mostly being sold in America.

I've used the website you reference Nev for checking on marbles I have in the past, it is very useful. I think one of your big ones might be an antique German marble, the one at the top of the first photo. The others do look to be genuine vintage US marbles, possibly by Alley, the modern Asian ones have a different style to them.

Thanks again user9318, the large marble at the top looks similar and the other large one matches ones in the top middle picture on that site. I need to do some research.

Looking at the buymarbles reference section, machine made early 1900-70, I think most of the other ones were made by the Marble King company 1949-current. The bottom photo in their section has a lot which are very similar.
