S & W ruffle vase?
« on: November 14, 2022, 02:59:39 PM »
Hi all.

I found this recently, and I'm trying to confirm the maker.

I've seen them variously described as "Stevens & Williams", or "Vintage Murano", or "Chinese".

Hoping it's S&W, but I have no real idea how to tell the difference. Apparently came from a house clearance, and from the amount of accumulated dust in the crevices, it "appears" to be quite old.

Measures 9" high x 4.2" across the top x 3.3" across the base. White inside, red outer, applied flowers etc. Snapped pontil mark, about 1" across.

Any advice welcome. TIA, Steve.

Hi Steve,

These are often misattributed, to both S&W and also Murano, they are actually Chinese production from the 1970s.

Thanks Greg.

Unfortunately, that link's returning: "The requested URL was not found on this server". Edit: missing the "l" from "html"

So what should I be looking for in future to sort the wheat from the chaff with these vases?

Variations on the theme are still in production too.

John
