Topic: Amber Uranium Vase.

Unusual little 4.5"/11.5cm. perhaps posy or spill vase. The colour is a pale amber similar to the brush tray I posted a while back. It has a ground base and rings nicely, density is 2.6g/cm3. My guess would be English and quite early, but could be by any of several makers, perhaps Joseph Webb/Edward Moore?

This is an odd one. The shape does not look like anything I have seen in a British Victorian glass catalogue. I would have suggested art deco if not for the foot which looks old. Maybe not British?
A puzzler.

Thanks Neil, it was sold as Art Deco but I'm sure it's Victorian, perhaps pre 1870. The foot reminds me of my Webb/Moore candlesticks and the pattern around the rim is distinctive, but I can't find anything similar. It might well be Bohemian, it has a hint of Biedermeier about it, I'll keep looking.

No real proof but I do think this is Bohemian/German from the Biedermeier era, around 1840.

They were not heavily into pressed glass however I do recall one or perhaps a couple of makers were making pieces.  I think I've seen some in blues but none in amber and I'm really sorry but named maker escapes me at the moment.  Possibly have a trawl through Pressglas Korrespondenz as that will be the best place to find something.

Thanks m, I've had a look on PK but there aren't many catalogues dating that far back. There were a few companies making cut to clear glass then, eg. Egermann, my one looks too plain for any of them.

The rim isn't what I'd expect to see so it wouldn't have been my first thought but that doesn't mean anything!  Just that if it was mine, I might not be looking at Bohemian.  But I could be wrong.  Very unhelpful I know - apologies.

I don't know about catalogues but PK might have done something on early amber uranium glass or similar.
The rim doesn't feel right for early 1800s for some reason.

No apologies necessary m, I found this one on Ebay in the Biedermeier style attribued as Bohemian, it's vaguely similar. A souvenir of Wiesbaden so it might also be German but more likely Bohemian. The seller doesn't say it's uranium but I think I see a hint of green.
