GR half pint dimple glass... with J&G Meakin Pottery Mark
« on: April 02, 2023, 03:20:37 PM »
This is a standard half pint dimple glass with the etched GR 478 weights and measures mark, so presumably manufactured by Ravenhead. Intriguingly, on the base is the etched 'Sol' trademark of J & G Meakin, the Hanley pottery that produced prodigious quantities of run-of-the-mill tableware, often from the 1930s - 1950s, that can still be found readily at car boots and in charity shops. The only thing that I can guess is that these were made for a Meakin social club, or equivalent. Anyone have any other ideas?

I can only mention the 478 is for St. Helens and the crown mark for 1930-52. I'm sure you are right about the Meakin connection.
