Isle of Wight Aurene scent bottle?
« on: April 08, 2023, 09:58:36 AM »
Hi, here is the description.  Any help appreciated.

The vase is in amethyst, gold and white glass with highlights in other colours, and cased in clear glass.  It sits on a green glass disk foot.  The vase measures 9.5 cm (3.8 inches) in diameter at its widest point and is 11.5 cm (4.6 inches) in height.  There are no chips, cracks, scratches or any evidence of restoration.

The vase weighs in at 785 g. (~ 1 lb. 12 oz.).

If it was from IoWSG it would be Azurene rather than Aurene but it is not theirs. The shape is plain wrong and the green foot even more wrong for IoWSG, much of the Azurene but not all of it was made with gold and silver leaf and the glass tends to look jet black. Not a clue who did make it, all I can be is unhelpful really...

Hello John, thank you for the input.  I thought IoW because there were a number of other IoW pieces in the lot I bought.  One manufacturer eliminated!  Now onto the next 999.  Kind regards, Neil

This might or might not be relevant.  ::)
Just today, my brother showed me a photo he took of a large (but damaged) sculpture of an eagle he saw on his travels and snapped it's pic for interest.
It was made by Heron, and it had large swathes of gold foil helping to depict the plumage.
So I know Heron used gold foil, too. I did not know this before today. 8)
And I immediately thought of this piece.

Hi, thanks for the input.  I haven't found anything like it in my limited search for Heron glassware but will take a further look.  Thanks for the guidance.  Neil

A large sculpture of an eagle was not something my brother or I had thought would be by Heron.
It was just so un-Heron-like.  :D :D :D  ::)
