Davidson? Candlesticks
« on: June 18, 2023, 10:29:09 AM »
I used to have a Davidson plinth in this colour and so assumed these were Davidson, but they are not typical of theirs and aren't in the catalogues. They are 3.25" tall, top 2"and the base is narrow at 2.25". They are reminiscent of the 279 straight sided vases.

Thanks Anne, I didn't recognise them either, there do seem to be lots of gaps in the available catalogues to be able to confirm it either way. I've had a search around but I can't think of another maker of similar pieces.

At the 1933 British Industries Fair, it was noted that Davidson had a display of wares "in the new transparent emerald green" - is this the colour referred to with your candlesticks?

It went on to say that the display was particularly fine, also in matt blue.
"The opaque jade is still popular, while there was a new orange cloudy colour"

Neil, yes that's the colour I thought they might be but I'm not sure. I've added a photo of the plinth I had which is darker than I thought, but that might just be the light.

They could be modern pillar candle holders...
