Czech Glass Bowl Identification
« on: August 08, 2023, 11:22:00 AM »
Hello, It's been a while since I last posted but any help to identify maker, age, date etc would be appreciated.
I picked up this Czech bowl/dish/plate recently.
It has a greenish tint, 3 large raised dimple like areas. It is large, 30cm diameter and weighs 1480g. It stands about 4cms from a polished base.
it has an original round sticker, not in great condition, which reads MADE IN CZECHOSLOVAKIA.
Thanks anyone with information

Gorgeous bowl.

It is a different size and may be slightly different but has similarities with a smaller bowl by František Zemek no 5529 from Zeleznybrodsklo

http://www.czechglassguide.cz/Frantisek-Zemek-5529-Bowl-d4402.htm

Hopefully someone with more knowledge will be able to confirm or correct.

Not ZBS, seems Skrdlovice is the maker. According to the 1955 Skrdlovice catalogue pattern 5529 is designed by Zemek, it shows what looks to be more of a bowl shape than a 'plate' like this one but otherwise it is spot on. Not sure if a differing shape would have had a new pattern number or not, maybe more like a variation in size which did not have.

Thanks John :) I just copied the info on the link without thinking last night.  Skrdlovice.

A flattened version of this?

Yes, that one is 25cm and the smaller size again.

Just found this catalogue image, it is a much improved image compared to the copies of the catalogues I have, the text is readable:

oddly I feel sure I've seen this 'platter' version before which is how I looked it up so quickly.  Can't recall where at the moment. Have looked back through the Prague auctions and couldn't see anything under Zemek going back to 2017 so maybe my mind playing tricks. Anyway a gorgeous bowl.

Mdux is it just green or slightly green and dusky pink? It's hard to tell from the photographs.

Hello 'flying free',
I very much appreciate your research into my bowl or platter as you have called it.
I would describe the colour as slightly green, very translucent.
Using the information you have already provided with 'glassobsessed' I have been searching for one similar on the internet but have been unable to find one.
Thanks again.

I couldn't find one on the net either.  Seems it could be very unusual.
