Topic: Unusual Volcanic Pot Holed Amethyst Glass Vase

Found this heavy glass vase it is thick heavy glass almost appears to look
like fiberglass or something until you get near it. The base has a sharp pontil
scar area and the color seems quite unusual i have not seen another similar
before and would love to find out more information if possible it measures 9.5"

Anyone think it might be Walsh Walsh Pompeian they did some pieces with sharp scars i think

Walsh Pompeian is very finely blown. This is most decidedly not.

Bubbles and coloured spots, popular themes in the 30s, shape might fit that time period too. Not a Caerleon vase by the look, I was musing Walsh too but there are plenty more possibilities.

  Agreed it's a bit of a big Heffer this one Arculous l did see as being similar too but they are usually less nice shapes in my opinion .

Forgetting the attribution here (there seem to be two distinct styles both described as Pompeian out there) these two look as if they were made in the same manner as yours:

I wouldn't describe Pompeian as finely blown for the big bits. The bubbles, the roughish surface texture, colour and sharp pontil mark all say Walsh Walsh Pompeian to me. I don't think the Scottish Antiques "cranberry" one is Walsh though. You may find a very faint mark if you get the light right

I've only ever seen amber or green Pompeian. I did not know other colours were available, or that it could be more thickly blown.

Bernard C says that almost all the shapes used are shown in the factory pattern books, reproduced in Reynolds. Presumably if it’s not marked then it should be matched to a shape in the book before attributing to Walsh Walsh. Bernard C also mentions other similar items still being made. This was from a post in 2009, don’t know if there is more known now.
