Signed Mottled Vase
« on: June 18, 2024, 08:39:06 AM »
Hi,
Have tried an image search, but not much luck.
Does anyone recognise the signature (very difficult to make out)?
Does this vase look familiar?
What is the correct term for this shape of vase - could it be called a Sleeve Vase?
What is this Mottled design called - it's whiter on the inside and more purple on the outside, so is it cased or what?
Sorry for so many questions, I don't even know the best way to describe this.
Any help gratefully received,
Marie.

I think it's likely to be Mtarfa.

The Mtarfa signature can be notoriously difficult to read!

Personally, I would just call it a cylinder vase.

Hope this helps a little.

Hi Greg,
Wow, that was quick - thank you for giving me a name.  Have had a quick search and that seems spot-on - will have a longer search and find out more.
Many thanks for all your help,
Marie.

Yes it's Mtarfa in Malta, you will find more about them in our Malta Glass forum here https://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/board,40.0.html.

Hi Anne,
Thanks for your message.  The short searches I tried after Greg had let me know about Mtarfa, did bring up a thread on here which I checked out - didn't think to look at the Malta section, will go through that to find out more.
Many thanks for all the help on here,
Marie.
