Streaky purple glass table lamp
« on: October 04, 2023, 02:59:23 PM »
Anyone have any ideas on this lamp?
I felt like it was good quality when I picked it up, no markings but I bought it anyway.
Brass fitting and older style cable/switch makes me feel as if its 70s - 80s.
Thoughts always welcome  ;D

Interesting find Ben, that decor reminds me a little of some of Adrian Sankey's work, I'm not sure if I can recall seeing any lamps by him before, however, might be worth investigating.

Had the same a while back but pale blue rather than this red and amethyst combo, also with the same satin finish on the outside. Kept it for several years but never managed to find the maker, did wonder about Nazeing but for no particular reason. It had a different fitting that included a small bulb inside, 70s was pretty much my impression too.

The decor looks similar to that on an Adrian Sankey vase I had. There is a similar shape lamp base with a Sankey labelled under plate shown at the top of the search results here:

That is the shape for sure. Mine was also two colour not one, there was some green as well as the blue.

Thank you for everyone's comments, no luck on my searches unfortunately.
Adrian Sankey does seem like a good suggestion but it doesn't feel like it.
I'll most likely give it to my mum as she's got a thing about purple glass!

There are a couple of vases that have the same shape, perhaps this was repurposed as a lamp.  Or a special order made to complement a matching vase.

The second is the same colour combo as my lamp, spot on. Obviously the reason I never solved mine was I failed to ask here!

I took the liberty of emailing Adrian Sankey about this lamp. He very kindly confirmed that it is indeed one of his he made quite a few years back now.

Apparently the lamp would have originally had a small low wattage internal lamp inside so has been subsequently rewired at some point in the past.

Hope this helps.

Greg

That is how mine was set up, the fittings were English made and the metal parts were high quality. I tend to think that anything Made in England must be from the 70s or before given the decline of manufacturing in the period that followed but that is simplistic. How long has Adrian Sankey been making glass, anyone know?
