Long boat-shaped posy bowl
« on: December 07, 2023, 10:28:20 PM »
Can anyone help me identify the maker and date of manufacture of this posy bowl? It's 37.5 cm long, 5.8 cm at the widest point, 4.3 cm high in the middle, and about 5.2 cm high at the pointed ends. In other words it curves up at the ends. The ribbing is on the sides and base. It's smooth inside. There are small roundels along the top rim. There are no marker's marks or registration marks that I can see.

Any assistance is appreciated. Thanks.

Anton

It looks like this No.9 one P.30 by Robinson Skinner. The catalogue states 1/4 scale so the size appears to be about the same.

My word! Just how did you spot that in the depths of an obscure catalogue?  8) Amazing. Thank you. Your identification seems spot on. Thank you.

Did Corning state when this catalogue was published?

Just found it myself. 1870-1900. Quite wide dating. Can we narrow that down?

It includes a registration from 1892. There is a shorter abridged catalogue circulating amongst northern collectors with minor differences, I have never been sure whether it is older or younger than the one Corning have.

Thanks Anton, a while ago I was searching for something and neilh pointed me towards the Robinson Skinner catalogue, I remembered they made similar pieces  ;D
