Topic: Milk Glass Basket

I've had a look for this unmarked basket online with no luck except there are two on Glass Encyclopaedia with the same pattern. Wayne says it is unknown but probably English. Having looked into the unusual style of basket weave I suspect it may be French. The moulding is nicely done, especially the base but the inside and elsewhere has lots of cracks from manufacture. Height is 8cm.

Hi Nev, this is not an uncommon shaped basket and can be found on eBay on occasions. My folks have a black one with gold painted top rim and handles and the small diagonal woven bits. We also have black opaque items which have gold painted bits and these are known styles from the North East. We have this basket as unknown in our records.
I think Davidson or Edward Moore could be likely contenders. Good luck.

Around this era Davidson or Greener are the main contenders for early Pearline pressed glass. 1888 ish imo. Regards Mike

Thanks Mike, definitely the same pattern. As far as I know the French didn't make pearline glass so as you say most likely English, Davidson or Greener.
