Well thanks fontanazul, I'd say you've created - through the medium of illustration - a reasonably accurate rendition of the feeling one could experience in these circumstances. Further to this trauma I now have a new addition to my Exbor shelf (it's a good, solid shelf - not in any way wobbly, so that's a relief). It's quite an unusual one I think. A whopping 342mm tall, possibly designed by Pavel Hava. Difficult to photograph as the colours are quite dark - it looks a lot better in real life than it does here. Exbor mark is a bit poor but it's there all the same.

Thanks for that Michael. Does indeed look as though it might be Adolf Matura then. The shape is mostly like the top, brightly lit of my three pictures, ie. more tapered than it appears in the second picture. I'm afraid my cheap camera has distorted the shape slightly, made it look less tapered than it is. In the book page link you've added it's like the one on the far right of the illustration.

"I have now carefully absorbed Jindra's comments on the actual age of some Exbor/Egermann products" but unfortunately as this was in 2013 I've now forgotton what I carefully absorbed. So the anxiety returns to haunt me...

It has been a while since I've made a post on the GMB. I've had this Exbor vase for around 10 years, bought it from Ebay like you do. I'm thinking of selling it again, but on close inspection I'm surprised in what sparkling condition it's in.

The reference books have this one down as designed in 1968 by Ladislav Oliva. Not sure if that's father Ladislav Oliva or son Ladislav Oliva - according to another post on GMB there were in fact the two of them. Mark Hill in his Hi Sklo Lo Sklo book that we all know and love doesn't actually mention that this particular vase was in blue, but I have seen quite a few blue ones of various different designs over the years so it probably was. I do though have a recollection from the past that 'later' versions of this vase were made, perhaps by Egermann Exbor after 1993? Although the actual design of some of the vases of this type I have seen has only a passing resemblance (I've seen what may well be these later versions for sale on Etsy and Ebay). 

This one does appear to be the same design as the 'textbook' 1968 designed version and the colour application - as you can see - is accurately done. But I can't believe its condition could be so good if it was made in the 1970s. I'm sure it's possible (if I'd bought it new in the 1970s it would still look this good) but in my experience there would usually be more scratches and wear on the bottom of the vase than seen here (see picture) if it was 50 years old.

This one doesn't have any etched Exbor logo underneath although I've read that Exbor vases didn't always have a logo. So the question is does anyone know to what date the version shown here may have been made up until? I don't want to say it's 1970s or maybe 80s if it could in fact be later than that.

Thank Ivo - looks like a very handy tome of reference. Bit pricey to get hold of a copy by the look of it though.
