A. Seguso millefiori bowls
« on: May 16, 2025, 02:01:20 AM »
I have been collecting these since the 1990's when I first saw them in an antique store in San Francisco. Although I don't continuously hunt for them, I buy them whenever I run across them at a reasonable price (which seems to have gone up over the years). One of the things I really like about them is the way they are instantly recognizable for what they are, which is not something you can say of much Murano glass. Plus, being from the shop of A. Seguso helps, since I like to collect his work. Here is a picture of the ten I have managed to gather over the years.

It seems they only came in four shapes: round, square, kidney, and a kind of triangular shape. They also seem to have come in seven colors: ruby, green, yellow, pink, cobalt, smokey grey, and amethyst. I am lacking ruby and grey, but I have seen photos of them online. The big triangular one in the back left of my photo is actually amethyst purple, and it's the only one I have ever seen in that color. It is also the biggest I have found at 135mm across and 782grams. The smallest I have seen is that pink one in front, at 98mm across and 408 grams.

The big yellow one has both A. Seguso stickers on it still, and the yellow kidney has the round sticker on the bottom. One interesting thing is that the two big triangular pieces appear to have used mostly the same millefiori canes (although not apparent in the photo), and are almost exactly the same size and weight. I bought them almost 30 years apart, but they seem to have been made almost at the same time, but in different incalmo colors.

So, surely some of you must have a couple of these laying around. I am curious to know how big they get and if they were made in other colors or shapes. What are the biggest ones you have? Do any of you have any knowledge about the series? Thanks!

Never seen a large example in the flesh but have had these two bowls through my hands. They are more than the sum of their parts somehow, bright, bold and jaunty.

These paperweights use similar canes sharing a lot of character with the bowls I reckon.
