Hoping this is as old as I believe it to be, 7.5 inches tall, lots of wear to the base, old style handle, staining in the base, with a snapped pontil mark, lots on ebay but that's not the best place for correct information as a rule.

Keith Mick:
Hi,
In the 19th century people began reusing German wine bottles as decanters and they became quite fashionable for a period. Kits were available for fitting cork seals. This I think is what you have.

NevB:
It does appear to have some age, I thought it might be European and found these. Keith Mick posted as I was posting.

 :)
I see the handle has been applied from the "top to the bottom", and I seem to remember something about this practise changing to from "bottom to top" around some rather old sort of particular date.
Does anybody else know about that or the details?

Keith Mick:
Hi,
Top down applied handles began to disappear around 1870 in Britain, but this may not be the same on the continent.
Cheers
