Hi timelessglass
I can help you .....
The weight is by Alistair MacIntosh who joined Caithness in 1987 as a designer
having previously run his own glass studio. He remained at Caithness until 2003.
During that time he had well over 300 designs accepted for production runs and
produced MANY more one off experimental designs.
I suspect your weight is one of the latter.
Hope this helps
Derek
TimelessGlass:
Thankyou so much Derek, that's really helpful.
So might this also mean that if it didn't go into production it would be more or less desirable?.
Derek:
Hi again
How long is a piece of string !!! To a Caithness collector it would be of less interest as its not a production piece, to a collector of Alistair MacIntosh weights is would be of more interest as it is the only piece of this design. Alistair is one of few designers at Caithness who not only designed weights but also executed the design.
Many of his one off designs use Murano glassmaking techniques such as incarmo and reticello so to someone who's collection is based around the technical aspects of paperweight making it would be of interest. Many of Alistairs designs using these techniques were not suitable for mass production hence only one copy of each exists.
