Unusual little side-strapped vase
« on: August 16, 2025, 08:59:00 AM »
Here, simply for your Saturday morning delight, is one of my new things, which you may have seen before as I bought it from a long-standing collector who may be a member here (and to whom I am indebted for letting me take it off their hands).  But I think it is a joy, so I’m going to show it off anyway.

A little amethyst side-strapped vase, button-necked, loads of silver iridescence (the whole body has a shimmer in the right light, but I haven’t cracked the photography thing yet).  The strapping is amethyst, but so dark as to be almost opaque - I have included a shot with an LED below, which actually demonstrates just how dark it is, plus a close-up lit with a stronger light that shows the somewhat more translucent body colour, the clear casing with silver salts shot through it, and the darker side strapping.

I’ve also added a pic of it alongside one of my favourite ‘poppa’ vases, because it seemed to me they were definitely related.  Same colour, very similar touch on the neck, and matching silver ‘togas’.  Both small relative to others of their type - Poppa is 5” and little side-strap just under 4”.

I think they are both early-ish, and either by Boffo snr or, dare I say it…no, I’ll leave that to them as knows about such things…I’m still a learner here…but all that silver…

I look forward to hearing your thoughts!

Wonderful stuff. Your "poppa" vase is a button rimmed "Pulled Ears" vase.
Cheers, Sue M. (she/her)

That is a great example of a side stripe, very nice, the good ones are few and far between.
