Nice piece of Jobling Oplescent glass , was it the centrepiece for a larger bowl or is it complete on its own. 4.75 inches in diameter , 7 sides with a floral decoration around the outside, marked in REGN APPLIED FOR, I had thought ash tray as just the right size but does not have any groves for cigs

Roy â€” From Jobling's 1934 catalogue, reproduced in Baker & Crowe:

OPALIQUE NOVELTIES

10500 Ash Tray, with Fish, 5" x 3", opalique . . 3/6 each

The price was wholesale/trade at the factory gate. As you will understand, such a high price, probably 5/11 retail, meant that few were sold, so it is quite a rarity undamaged.

It also came with three other statuettes:

10510 ... Mouse ...
10520 ... Parrot ...
10530 ... Kingfisher ...

This Fish ashtray was registered 6 September 1934, No. 796184, so yours must pre-date this. Baker & Crowe also note that the plaster model for the fish is known to be the work of Etienne Franckhauser.

Lovely find. I'm really envious.

Many thanks it is undamaged I did think ash tray but lack of any groves for cigs made me wonder, just to let you know I will more than likely be selling it in the near future
