Roy — From Jobling's 1934 catalogue, reproduced in Baker & Crowe:
OPALIQUE NOVELTIES
10500 Ash Tray, with Fish, 5" x 3", opalique . . 3/6 eachThe price was wholesale/trade at the factory gate. As you will understand, such a high price, probably 5/11 retail, meant that few were sold, so it is quite a rarity undamaged.
It also came with three other statuettes:
10510 ... Mouse ...
10520 ... Parrot ...
10530 ... Kingfisher ...This Fish ashtray was registered 6 September 1934, No. 796184, so yours must pre-date this. Baker & Crowe also note that the plaster model for the fish is known to be the work of Etienne Franckhauser.
Lovely find. I'm really envious.
