Ah, now, you see, Bernard, those thoughts were what made me think it wasn't Jobling, as it was also very similar in feel to your pears bowl! :o
Anne:
Are there not two or three variant patterns on the bird bowls? I have a vague recollection of this being discussed some time ago... I'll try and find the earlier thread.
Edited to add: Found it! Lynne here you go... http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,587.0.html
josordoni:
Oh yes! that is it isn't it!! This is very exciting! I NEARLY got it right all by myself ;D ;D ;D and then talked myself out of it !! (story of my life...)
thank you so much - I didn't realise there were different variants, so assumed when I found the bowl on the Glass Ency site (I think - I looked at so much I am rather lost...) that it was a copycat.
josordoni:
By the bye, is this satin finish the same as the one I have seen described as Opalique? Or just a satin finish?
Anne:
No, yours is satin, Lynne.
This is Opalique (i.e. the trade name for Jobling opalescent inspired by Lalique - ref Ivo's little Glass Fact File)... isn't it splendid? Jobling Birds on Glen's Carnival Glass site:
