Deco style crystal box - similar to clock (175) on gallery
« on: January 17, 2007, 11:32:24 AM »
Hi,

I was having a nose on the Gallery and noticed a crystal-cased clock.  I couldn't find a thread on the message board to add this to - maybe the owner of the clock hasn't posted yet.

This large crystal box (quite likely a cigarette box) is one of my favourite things and I know nothing about it except I have never seen anything like it until I saw the clock.

Any info greatly appreciated.

Hi Cat, there is a thread about the clock here: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,5746.0.html - it's one of Pat's queries.

Hi Anne,

Many thanks - I did try a search on "clock" first, that's how I came across the Higgins glass - fabulous!!!!

Maybe Pat will come back to that thread one day with more pictures, I hadn't considered the possibility of the box being Russian as I have no experience of Russian Glass (that I'm aware of!).

Still, the box might even shed some light on the clock.  Will wait and see.

Kind regards

Let's hope so Cat. They are both really nice pieces, aren't they?  I've bumped the original clock thread to remind Frank he was going to check his Russian glass info as well - perhaps he can help some more. :)

Not convinced with the link to the clock. Have you tried to eliminate Baccarat? Is it cut or moulded?

Hello Frank,

I would say moulded.  I know that Baccarat do make moulded objects as I had one of their candlesticks which was marked.  Sadly this has no markings at all.............still it wouldn't be half as much fun if it was easy!

ummmm..............only exactly!

OMG Frank...............I always said it was "good"..........Tiffany would be kind of neat to have in the collection - at least until I need a new bathroom!   I will do a bit more research and see if I can get a bit further now.

Thank you so much.

Sorry Frank - I misread the measurements - mine is 200mm long and that one is 170mm.  BUT have looked on the Tiffany website and seen a much better image and it does have the same feel to it.  Also, they say Crystal box not Cut Crystal box which would suggest it's moulded...............wouldn't it?  Cat

PS surprised by his estimate of £250 new when they are $85 online..............maybe the bathroom will have to wait a bit longer!
