Could this be a Monart Miniature?

(1/2) > >>

zidori:
I picked this up at a local auction along with a small Vasart vase. This one was simply described as an Art Glass vase - no maker attributed. It reminded me of Monart and wondered if it were one of the miniatures. It is 3 inches high, pale green with dark blue at top liberally sprinkled with gold aventurine. The base is smooth polished concave - difficult to photograph.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Ronnie

Frank:
Oooh, difficult one. It could be, or it could also be more recent. The blue at the top troubles me more than the base. I do not think it is one of the fake miniatures that I handled 20 years ago, unless the base has been altered since. It needs a hands on opinion. If you are in London perhaps Nigel, or at one of the fairs he attends.

nigel benson:
Hi,

The image is coming up as enormous and diagramatic, which makes it impossible to interpret. Sorry :(

If you could put up another image that is compressed(??) It may be possible to give you some help. Otherwise, as Frank suggests, I would be happy to look at it at one of the fairs that I attend.

The next one will be the Glass Fair at Chilford Hall, Cambridge, 18 February 2007  - see www.cambridgeglassfair.com for details of how to get there.

Thank you all for your contributions and interest. I am afraid that I am hopeless at technology and don't pretend to understand how to resize pictures. Here, with apologies, is my attempt to reduce the size using Macromedia Fireworks. I hope this is of use to you Nigel. My original photos look fine on my computer so I do not know quite what the problem is. Hopefully this will help.

nigel benson:
Hello Ronnie,

Thanks for the extra pictures.

Like Frank I find this one difficult and would prefer to handle it, but insinctively I don't think Monart.

I am particularly suspicious of what appears to be a thick, clear casing at the base. The vase also looks like it might be a bit thick walled and heavy for its size - but that really needs first hand experience of the piece in order to evaluate those characteristics.

Unfortunately, despite your best efforts the pic of the base is still coming through as diagramatic for me, so I can't comment on the base finish.

Hope some of this helps, Nigel
