9.5" Red Italian Compote - Possibly Barovier?
« on: February 10, 2007, 03:15:06 PM »
Hi - first post on the Italian Board.  This piece has a gold label "MADE IN ITALY".  If it didn't have the label I would have described it as amberina, but I don't know if Italian glass is described that way.  I have seen a small Barovier piece in a book which looks the right colour.  The bowl is lightly fluted.

Any ideas much appreciated.  Thank you for looking.

Hello Cat,
I dont believe this is a Barovier piece.
Looks like a newer Murano piece. The stem on it looks mold made, not hand blown, and for it to be older I would like to see a rough pontil mark on the bottom. As far as color, I don tthink you can go on color to define a piece. Many makers used different styles and colors.
Hope this helps. Maybe we can get other opinions on your piece.
