Hello everyone, as you probably know I'm out of my comfort zone with Italian glass (but learning quickly!). I bought this a couple of months ago from a charity shop (it was fairly expensive but I liked it) and I've had it on display ever since. A friend came around and enquired about it and I really didn't know what to say other than it's Italian, probably Murano, dating from the 1960's (ish) and the technique is called Sommerso. I can confirm that it has a nice bit of base wear so I'm confident it's not new production and it's a biggie at over 12in tall. With green glass at the top fading to a red/orange colour at the base and all thickly encased in clear glass, it's also very thin when turned sideways. I see these types of vases on eBay and elsewhere on the net regularly described as Poli but I don't want to fall into that trap - how would you describe this if asked? Photos below:-
