There is a glass maker in Wales called David Pryce-Jones who works at a centre called the Glassblobbery.  He makes little flameworked glass sculptures http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/albums/userpics/10048/Kingfisher.jpg  and also the sort of 'knitted' glass that Chris first posted. 

I haver also bought a couple of Christmas decorations made in the same style, which came with little 'Made in China' stickers on.  http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/albums/userpics/10048/xmas_ballerina.jpg

So it looks as if these things are made everywhere!   ::)
