I was saddened by today's news that all "Pyrex" production is to end in Sunderland. The work will be transferred to France.
That must represent the end of large-scale production of glass in the North East of England, apart from The Thermal Syndicate at Wallsend. They make technical products in fused silica which is, of course, a glass even if not recognised as such by the general public.
