Where do I look for more information on Mdina?
(1/1)
Roz:
In the same auction lot as the obelisk ( see another thread) I bought this Mdina vase. If there was a smiley for hearts I'd put it here because this is one of those "I love this so much I'm prepared to pay more than I really should" purchases. As it turned out, I only paid half what I was prepared to, so I'm doubly happy!
It's signed underneath "Mdina", but that's all I know about it. Andy McConnell's "20th Century Glass" (which is one of my main sources of information on my glass at the moment) tells me a little about Mdina, but not as much as I'd like to know. For instance, what sort of age can I put on the vase? Value is of less interest, because it's a keeper, and I doubt it will be worth so much that I need to list it separately on the insurance!
I plan to buy two more glass books this month: the Bagley book is a must, but what would the more seasoned glass collectors recommend as a second book for me right now? I own a selection of Miller's Guides, the Stewarts' Davidson book and Jackson's Whitefriars book.
Many thanks,
Roz

David E:
Roz, you could try Mark Hill's book:

Only published last year so very much up to date.
Roz:
Thanks David. Any thoughts on a more general book?
Roz
MarkHill:
Hi Roz,
Alas there is no more general book on Mdina! As far as I am aware, there is only information on Mdina in the following books:
1 or so illustrated paras in Nigel Benson's small 'Glass of the 50s & 60s' book for Miller's
A couple of pages in Leslie Jackson's '20th Century Factory Glass', that also take in IOW glass
The pages in Andy's book, which you have.
My book
The issue with lots of later Mdina, post Michael Harris, is that it is virtually undatable - at least only to a period anyway.
That's all I can remember right now, and may be all in total!
All the best,
Mark
