Title: Riedel Glass

Hello,

Just got here a few hours ago.  Does anyboby know anything about RIEDEL CRYSTAL (Austria)  paperweights, candleholders and glass sculptures??  I have several RIEDEL items but literature is scare.  RIEDEL USA headquarters in New York is no help to me.  The only thing I didn't do is try to contact Georg Riedel himself for help.

 Am I the only guy in the world that likes this stuff??

The Riedel dynasty stretches more than 300 years, and currently the Riedels are one of the largest glass conglomerates in the world - after the takeover of Nachtmann and various tableware makers.  Riedel have built up a name in wine glasses and decanters, and it must be said, good wine deserves a Riedel glass.
Meanwhile, their other post-war production is underexposed. I cannot think of any article, book or website going into their production and design history. So maybe the answer is yes - you are the only guy in the world that likes this stuff.

The subject of Riedel Glass history is certainly an interesting one, and there is one good definitive book I found that has an excellent history of both the glass and the Riedel Family. Try to find a copy of EINE SYMPHONIE AUS GLASS which was published by the TIROLER LANDESMUSEUM FERDINANDEUM INNSBRUCK.
I was able to locate and document items in my collection, one vase of which is shown at http://www.Antique-Art-Glass.com, which is identical in decoration but a different shape to the one located in the Passau Glasmuseum in Passau, Germany.
I hope this helps in your search for documentation.

I have a feeling that there is also a czech published book on the Riedel glassworks. I will get back shortly with more info.
