Title: Rosedale glass furnace. Discovery of an Elizabethan illegal kiln.
Post by: chopin-liszt on September 22, 2021, 04:07:49 PM
I learned today that there is a "secret" glass kiln, from Elizabethan times which was discovered and moved from its original location to Ryedale Folk Museum.
Furnaces were very heavily taxed in those days, so illicit kilns sprang up.

There is a small booklet that was produced by the North York Moors National Park called "In Search of Rosedale Glass".  As well as the history, it includes walking routes up to the original site.

I've never been up there yet, not so sure I could manage the drive there and back with a 6 mile walk on top.  :-[
