Glass / Re: White Trumpet Vase - Edward Moore ?
« Last post by thewingedsphinx on Yesterday at 04:46:41 PM »
Hi Mike,
I’ve seen this pattern in an unusual mauve colour. It’s a rare pattern.
I’ve also seen some known Davidson creamers with clear edges then a white body so I presume a poor colour mix. Perhaps they were just experimenting.

The link you show to the rainbow pattern is definitely a characteristic of an Edward Moore mould as we had one of those small baskets in the caramel colour. I think Raymond slacks book mentions that Davison acquired Edward Moores moulds in the early 20th century.

Regards Mike

Free from today's boot sale due to the large chip on the foot. It has the Rd.224177 for 19/12/1893 , listed in Jenny Thompson's book as "Pattern of dots within a form similar to Greek key pattern", no image shown so it's interesting to see it in the flesh.

Bought today just because they looked interesting.(I don't NEED any more glass in the house)
I did look up the companies on the weights and they were established a long time ago but i don't know when these weights were produced.

Glass / White Trumpet Vase - Edward Moore ?
« Last post by MHT on October 05, 2024, 06:41:50 PM »
I have not seen this design before. White trumpet vase, 7" tall. It has the rainbow pattern which has been attributed to Edward Moore:

What intrigued me was the colour. It is not a solid opaque white all the way through, in places it is quite translucent.
This really shows on the top rim whch is clear glass for the first 2 or 3 mm before changing to opaque white.
Is this a mix of clear and white glass or has the white glass somehow separated, if this is even possible?

See what you think.

Knop types went in and out of fashion, yours is a little more unusual but I'm not really sure that makes it earlier. In theory earlier should mean more wear and a more hand made feel to a glass but it's difficult to compare these things. I use Scottish Antiques web site when I want to try and date a glass or find something that looks similar. Take a look at their dram/gin glass pages, see if you can find a match.
Here's a picture of mine.

Glass Paperweights / Milkglass Baseball Paperweight
« Last post by mtrotnic on October 04, 2024, 08:08:46 PM »
Hello!
New member here who knows very little about glass but always willing to learn. I've got this milkglass baseball paperweight I don't know much about. There are no makers marks on it and is the same size as a regulation baseball. It's intricate with embossed stitches and a fancy base. I'm having difficulty posting pics are are within acceptable size but primarily wondering what era this is from.  Anyone familiar with the paperweight that I'm talking about until I can get a pic up? Is it 1800s? Early 1900s? Thanks all and I'll get a pic up asap.
Thanks again
Michael

I seem to recall early work was called Monart Ware and later on is called Monart Glass which should help a little, Ronnie  :)
If the colours of your photo are accurate, I can see a certain softness to the orange in the canes which is something I personally associate with Salvador. Based on absolutely nothing but my gut gurglings.
