British & Irish Glass / George Elliott studio glass
« Last post by Florence8989 on March 22, 2024, 09:44:34 AM »
Hello everyone, I'm new to the platform and to hunting for glass! :)

I just wanted to share some pictures of these studio glass goblets I found recently in a charity shop. I believe them to be by George elliot (signed), who operated in bewdley

Anyway I hope you like them!

It's huge, and that's another pointer towards Chinese (that's not to say everything huge is Chinese of course).

Glass / Dating orange vase, full of bubbles
« Last post by Florence8989 on March 22, 2024, 09:36:35 AM »
Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum

I'm here to share my love for glass and wanted some help identifying or maybe dating a piece?

The piece in question is an orange vase, that's full of bubbles, these can be felt on the surface of the glass. Has a few inclusions? You can also see striations up and down the vase, it has little tiny swirl (?) decorative handles and appears to be hand-blown from the bottom

I'd love to know is it old, new? Any knowledge is greatly appreciated

Glass / Loetz? silver overlay
« Last post by glasstime on March 21, 2024, 08:37:48 PM »
Hi. I have a pretty silver overlay vase which I always thought could be Loetz. Looking at again today I saw faint markings scratched onto the base and wondered if anyone knows what they are. Maybe factory marks? Or retailers? Or silversmith? Any help would be much appreciated.

I looked very carefully and suspected Chinese myself. Not just from the "large and colourful and not in the most accurate of proportions", but also from the kind of base-non polished pontil scar, but also the removal and finishing of the bit of the base to make it sit flat.
I didn't say anything, I was waiting for somebody else to bite the bullet first.
sorry and thanks, Nev.

Glass / Re: Maltese/Mtarfa vase? Any ID help please?

I think so  ;D - and Phoenician is very underrated too.
Your vase is also a very typical Mtarfa shape.

With that unpolished, ground pontil it might be Chinese, I've had a look but can't find anything. An image search finds similar ones by L.E. Smith but the base doesn't seem right.

Thank you Chopin. I thought it was. I love the colours. Mtarfa produced some lovely ware and is, in my opinion, rather under-rated.

:) Mtarfa. I recognise the pattern, and that sort of squiggle is right too.
It is very squiggly. And upside down, I think. The slant normally goes in the other direction.
