Title: Squat Dimpled Blue-Iridized Amethyst Vases, Hand-Painted Flowers
Post by: SNJ on November 13, 2017, 08:01:22 PM
A pair of dark purple vases, each 3½" tall with four dimples, almost matt blue iridescence and hand-painted flowers which look like pink daffodils / narcissi (wish I hadn't checked Google images for 'pink narcissus'!). Quite distinctive bases which look as though the foot ring has been polished and a central pock-marked centre left. For no particular reason I'm swaying towards Germany / Switzerland but I'm probably way off, as usual.

nice pieces, and as always great to have a pair - do we think these are bulb vases - with that waisted shaped neck?

I like the enamelled decoration - I'm ignorant too, but would have gone for either eastern Europe, or even the U.K  -  have they ever made glass in Switzerland? ;D           Is it the base glass that's amethyst?

From what I can see in the pix, the outer rims of the base look roughly ground - or perhaps I need Specsavers, again.            Ordinarily, I'd have assumed these had some decent age - but it's easy to be caught out, so will refrain from offering a suggestion.           I think this dimpled design has a definite antique history, so could be some real age there.
