Title: paperweights with roosters
Post by: Patricia H on June 03, 2007, 10:26:04 PM
Hello!  Somewhere I saw a maker who had several pw's with roosters on them.  Does this strike a chord with any of you?
Thanks..Pat

I saw Murano on Ebay just yesterday that had a rooster cane in the centre. Baccarat has a rooster among it's Gridel silhouette canes. They have a nice series of weights where one of the Gridel canes is larger than the other and in the centre with the other silhouettes in a smaller size and worked into the design. Perthshire made a very nice magnum millefiori with a rooster picture cane. Wish I would have gotten my hands on one of those.

Hi Pat
Don't know if this is of any interest but here are two paperweights with rooster canes, the first is a Perthshire cushion weight where the rooster cane is set about half an inch below the top of the weight is is seen through then "porthole"

The second picture is of a scrambled weight I bought in Venice

I remember discussing roosters in Murano weights here (http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,6840.msg58261.html#msg58261).  The rooster is the city symbol for Murano, so roosters in Murano weights is not going to be unusual.

Thanks everyone!  I learned something new.  Those are BEAUTIFUL paperweights!   I've noticed that when I go into the ebay uk site, I see much better ones.  Right now I'm bidding on a Phoenician glass weight from Malta thru the uk site.   Thanks for the information!

That one is the Murano I saw yesterday. I flagged it and watched it to see what it would sell for.
