Title: Large heavy pressed? vase - old - ID = Inwald
Post by: Anne on January 15, 2007, 06:24:01 AM
This is one of my newer finds and I cannot find anything like it in any of the reference books and sites I have searched. It's a heavy pressed glass vase, stands 10" tall (almost 26cm), is 7" across the top (18cm), and weighs over 4lb (1.9kg). The base is quite a deep recessed one as can be seen in the photos.

I have pics of the side view, top rim and base here if anyone can throw any light on its maker, please?

Anne, there is a vase shown in the Markhbeinn catalogue (mainly Inwald's glass) of 1936, that resembles your piece. The difference appears to be that on the illustration (drawing) in the catalogue, there are not as many V shapes - but the height (27cm), pattern and top/base shaping all appear to match.

I admit I did think "Inwald" when I looked at your photos - it's clearly a quality piece, and the ground base looks right.

Thank you Glen. It certainly feels like a good piece, the photo is a little deceptive as it looks like there are chevrons along the rib but that's just refraction/reflection from the diagonals. Those ribs are actually quite smooth.  I just fell for it as soon as I saw it!  :D
