My royal commemoratives theme display at our Jubilee weekend historical exhibition (includes a few non-glass pieces as well.) Everything else was non-glass other than my small collection! 8)
-
I "celebrated" the palaver by tracking down the Sex Pistols wonderful rendition of "that" anthem.... one of the only 2 versions I find acceptable and playing it very, very loudly.
I may get out James Mac Millan's Percussion Concerto later... nice and loud and discordant.
I'm glad to hear you were able to get some glass into the display - and a bit surprised there wasn't a lot more!
I had my brother here last week, and I tried to fob this off on him - he likes and uses Kilner jars.
He deliberately left it behind. :-\
-
I was surprised too Sue, there was a lot of pottery/ceramics but no-one else seems to have glass. Mind you I thought I only had 3 or 4 pieces, and then found there was 14 in total! ;D
-
World's Smallest Collection of Monart?
The images below show our entire collection of Monart. I believe it is the smallest item they ever made, shape ZH, at less than 2cm high by 9 cm across.
Short of not having any specimens at all, is this the smallest possible collection of Monart?
Trevor
PS. We don't expect sympathy for our relative deprivation, because we collect mostly Australian studio glass. Contributions to expand our Monart collection, however, will not be refused.
-
A nice little ashtray, the colour code is 162. Though not the smallest piece of Monart, I have a pin dish/bowl shape GE which is 8cm wide 1.75cm high.
Gary
-
Mdina which I think looks nice together.
-
so it was you, Nemmie! :P (second from right!)
Trevor - ;D there is a little adage often spouted;
"One is an example, two means a mistake and three makes a collection."
-
Yes it was me amongst others ;)
A hard fought battle for that one.
-
And so it should have been 8) - well done - it's a beauty. ;)
-
I was the underbidder Nemmie, you would have had a proper fight on your hands if I had been 'serious' about it (I have too many Tricorns already). Is your new bottle completely round or is it just a little triangular? It looks like an interesting variation on the norm.
John
-
Too many Tricorns? I am not sure I would ever be able to say that. After all everyone is different!
Unless you are running out of room. I can certainly understand that.
Perfectly round, it's like a baseball bat.
-
This is on the theme of, what happens when you've run out of space :o ;D ;D
-
I'm sure I could squeeze quite a few wee mushrooms in there..... ;)
-
Trouble is,that's not the worst shelf unit :o ;D
-
Heh heh heh Keith, you and me both! :)
-
A friend of mine sold me his D'avesn koi fish charger after pestering him to sell it to me
and it was this that got me hooked on the artist, didn't know a thing about him at the time but I know a little bit more now.
I collect glass purely because of the beauty of it and not of the value and I could not part with any of my collection of glass.
Thankyou for looking,best wishes Alan.
-
You say you couldn't part with any of your collection, then you're going to need a bigger shelf! I can't part with any of mine and that pic' above is just one of many! :o :o ;D
-
I love the pieces in your top pic, Alan.
-
This is on the theme of, what happens when you've run out of space :o ;D ;D
I can compete with that ;D
Michael
-
No shelf space left - this is my dining-room table :-[
-
;D Sue, that is approximately how my dining table looks like, too...
But some new shelfs have been installed, so the table will be empty soon (at least for a short period)
Sometimes I try to display some of my glass in a more refined way -- see pic.
Michael
-
Oh dear... :o
This is as crowded as I get: 5 items on a 35cm x 37cm shelf. All the others have 2-4 pieces gracing their surface.
-
Michael I LOVE those!
Anik, me too...however we have a small room in the house that has built in shelves, which was where our books were kept. They have been moved to a built in cupboard in another room and I have the small room to store all my glass not on display. They are now full. The deal is that I am not supposed to buy any more glass until I sell some in the small room ::) I'm not keeping to my end of the bargain, I confess
m
-
Thanks, m!
I was really happy to find a second of the Hospodka vases in a slightly different shape some weeks ago -- they display really beautifully as a pair.
One is from Berlin fleamarket, the other from Vienna.
Michael
-
My theme here is £10 or under, these Monart pieces were all bought for £10 or under, each one has varying degrees of damage but display fine. The cheapest was the perfume bottle at £1.21 and the dearest was the cigarette holder (2nd from left) at £10.
Gary
-
Spent a very happy day yesterday reorganising part of my collection see picture.....I like colour co-ordinating !! The rest is on windowsills all over the house...uranium in Kitchen, blue in Bathroom & Bedroom and Amber in guest room and Lounge. Oh I forgot the flint in two huge cupboards in the Kitchen ... will need a bigger house soon. :)
-
Jambo Simba!
I am trying to be more organised as well... and have started to colour co-ordinate my collection. Those shelves look great... I must go and have a look at Ikea.
I also have windowsills filled with glass, and in the kitchen I keep all the new arrivals so I can get to know them, then when the sills are full, I move some away to other tables, shelves, windowsills, cupboards and the like.
Once upon a time, I did quietly mention to John that if he got rid of all his books I would have more room to display my glass... in fairness he has three wall to wall, floor to ceiling shelving sets he built in for his books (thousands of them!)! I got this look :o and this one ::) ! I just :'(
Why Simba BTW?
-
Why Simba?.....sad story ....when I joined my dear old dog had just died he was called Simba so I used Simba as my 'username' in memory of him... real name Angela. I tried shifting some of my husbands books to make way for more glass....he soon put a stop to that. Though I have a plan to put an extension in the loft and move him and his books up there. Simba is the border collie and the German Shepherd is Tess our other dog who is here at my feet.
-
Oh Angela, I'm so sorry you lost your lovely doggie.....I asked because Simba is Swahili for Lion, and I speak Swahili and thought you might too.
I have a herd of elephants amongst my collection of animals.....last count, 60+ of them, 12 of which are Isle of Wight....another one arrived this morning. I will post some pictures tomorrow. It's time I added a few more of my collection!
-
He was called Simba (The Lion King) by my children to follow our first dog who was called Sheba (Queen of Sheba)...our new dog is called Max after Mad Max which is self explanatory...he is bonkers!! Anyway talking of elephants I have a huge glass elephant which I love.......
-
Nice one Simba...you can call him Tembo!!
-
Here's a selection of my Scandinavian displays :)
-
Absolutely beautiful display of glass kisslikeether...Ikea must be doing well out of us glass collectors. I like your lights I must get some of those but I am saving up for doors first...I don't much like dusting.
-
Ooooh! Simba! You mentioned the 'D' word! :o
-
Thanks all :)
I have 2 of the larger Flair vases too - carboot find ;)
The lights are decking lights from B&Q
-
The tangential discussion about the Flair items has been split off and merged with the earlier topic as per Rosie's suggestion. http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,22282.70.html 8)
-
Part of the Blue Bedroom collection.....normally on the window sill.....but I had to clean my windows today so took the opportunity for a group photo !!
-
Wow! Kisslikeether I love all that beautiful Kosta Boda. So many bits I could happily take to join my selection. ;D ;D ;D
I seem to be on a Finnish streak at the moment - lots of lovely colourful Riihimaki. Although the Per Lutken collection has reached 55 I discovered today. So you have lots more lovely glass to collect.
Ross
-
Thanks Ross! Hands off they're mine! ;D
I came across a lovely Humppila bowl the other day in an antiques centre & got a bit excited about the find but it wasn't signed as all my other Humppila pieces are & on close inspection it had a bruise so I'm guessing it was a factory second.
-
If you trawl back you can see several Scandinavian displays in my one display cabinet.
- Danish
- Finnish & Whitefriars (nowadays I could easily just do one of either)
- Kosta Boda
- Recent buys & More Rercent buys have many Scandi bits as well.
Ross
-
Our neighbours have just had a huge extension built, which is longer than our house and so blocks some of the view from my kitchen window. I therefore decided to give myself something nice to look at instead of their new wall, so here's my new display - my Uranium window sill! ;D
-
Nice one Leni
-
Webb water lily,I'm that colour now! ;D ;D
-
Absolutely lovely, Leni. Who made the plate?
Ross
-
The plate is Pairpoint 'Colias', Ross :)
-
I've just had to have a little 'shuffle' to get a new purchase into my Victorian Vaseline Uranium 'Triffid and Audrey' (thorn vase ;)) cabinet, so I thought I'd better update my photos. Also, I now have an 'overflow' cabinet and have moved the cranberry and Uranium pieces to a shelf in that.
-
oh they are gorgeous! I particularly love the 'forest' of thorn vases, that display looks really effective :)
I also love that opalescent bowl with the applied teardrops on it on shelf 3? at the front I think it was. They are all amazing pieces though, wonderful colours.
m
-
Absolutely beautiful!! I love all the colours grouped together very effective ;D
-
Oh Leni, they all look so beautifully washed, polished and shiny....and Soooooooooo pretty.
A 'Little Shop of Beauties'!
Lots of new additions and no 'extractions'!
-
Mrs Green here, but you know that :-*
-
my pink window
Helga (Iceland)
-
Pretty combination of different shades of pink which really works. I love the knobbly type pink one in th emiddle at the front.
m
-
That's a posh stand for Chance plate ;D ;D
-
Nothing rare in these pieces but they are great shapes and the colour is intense.
m
-
Is that your old school desk? ;D,love the staircase ;D ;D
-
Thanks :)
no the desk is one we bought for our son in the days of yore when we decided our children would never have plastic toys, only wooden ones, and that they would never have t-shirts with slogans and pictures on ::) only child-labour free best organic plain cotton ;D or recycled cast-offs. That lasted all of ....oh a couple of years, until we were overruled. Most recently by the decision that only a large Ikea white desk would do, none of that old wooden tat thanks :'(
Well we tried ;D
m
-
That yellow vase in the middle Flying Free. Is it rather solid - say 3 to 4 mms thick glass. If so, have you attributed it yet. It reminds me strongly of a piece I have that I originally thought to be Holmegaard but turned out not to be.
Ross
-
Hi Ross, no I haven't definitely but I think it is Empoli. I wouldn't instinctively have thought it was Scandinavian. Yes it's good thick glass, heavy piece and nicely made. It has similarities in design to a pink vase I have that was id'd on here as Empoli. The way the foot goes in and makes it look like a skirt type thing.
I'll try and find the link to the pink vase as that might help.
m
-
here's my pink vase that I was determined was if I recall without re reading the thread ::) but turned out to be Empoli

My 'Room with a View' some of my green collection. Makes the washing up go faster !! ;)
-
Go and wash your brain out with soap for comparing these two bits, M. :P
A lovely view indeed, Simba! :)
-
the greens are very peaceful Simba
Sue, do you mean the pink ;D
m
-
Yes. The amber thing is lovely. ;)
-
I'll get a better picture of the 'amber thing' and put it on the board - it's bright yellow ;D
m
-
I love the greens they look fantastic.
Here's my two newest entries... nothing special but quite pretty
-
My favourite Monart colour scheme in this vase with some roses from the garden, it's good to actually use the vase for what it was intended for.
Gary
-
Beautiful vase, beautiful roses, and best of all, someone who agrees that vases were made to hold flowers.....200 Brownie points Gary!! :)
-
Looks gorgeous but many vases were made as display pieces in themselves, not just to be used for flowers :)
I do use some of mine, but not the expensive ones!
m
-
Quote from flying free "Looks gorgeous but many vases were made as display pieces in themselves, not just to be used for flowers". I really cant comment on other glassmakers, but in Monart case, vases were made and sold for the use of flowers ect and not just for display. The first photo is from the British Industries Fair at Olympia in London circa 1930s the second photo is from J Moncrieff advertisement materail circa 1920s.
Gary
-
:)
-
That's wonderful Gary! Thanks for sharing :)
I'd still hate to ruin my best pieces with water staining though ;D
m
-
Sure I read somewhere that plants release a chemical that eats into glass,so flowers stay in the garden or pots, not my glass :o :o ;D ;D
-
One unit on one wall in one room with some glass.
-
;)
So you kept all the best stuff yourself and didn't put it in your shop for me to find!
huh. :P
-
Pretty sure you will have found something at some point - or I hope so. :)
-
I did. I even got a beautiful blue Barum Barnstaple cat, which is busily eyeing up the rat covered candlestick I got from you - they go so well together.......... but aren't really appropriate for a glass display thread. :-[
-
Ladderax! Wow!! That brings back memories... and you have some animals and the same TV as me... what good taste!!
Now please can we see the rest.. and a close up of the last picture in BIG!! I think there is a bunny there I recognise. :)
-
Thank you - there's a few animals dotted around this place and one picture here shows another unit in another room with some glass. Bunny all on it's own as well and seeing as you mentioned tellys - a few in here and picture of one included seeing as it is near some glass. 8)
Alastair
-
...and then there's other things with bits of glass on or in them although one room currently only has one bit of glass in it as all the fish that were in it have swum off.
Trying to think of a link to the thread title but I suppose my theme is stuff what I like although touches of colour blocking are going on.
Alastair
-
Lovely, lovely, lovely! Thank you for sharing.
The bunny is either Avondale or Caithness I think, although Avondale often put a carrott in their paws. Is that an anteater further down in a lower picture?
I love the retro TV... and all your animals on display have made me feel quite normal... Hee hee!!
A few of mine are here, but I have about 700 now!!
http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,39041.110.html scroll down to 111 & 112.
-
My pleasure Rosie and glad you like my stuff. Your's - most impressive and of course perfectly normal. No idea what the thing you spotted is - looks like a cross between a mouse and elephant.
Alastair
-
Not everything is coloured glass....
-

The ellimous is an endangered species Alistair, and should be guarded carefully... until recently it was misnamed the mousiephant, but careful genetic monitoring has disproved this altogether. Treasure him.
-
Hi!
I have found these vases in fleamarkets and need your help to identify and if you can, perhaps give me a clue about their value. They might be worthless, but I don't know and won't start giving them away before i do ;)
Thanks a lot =)
The left, amber vase is approx. 45 cm tall.
Next to it is a vase from Magnor, 32 cm tall.
Number 3 from left is 25 cm tall.
Number 4 is 18 cm, tall and labelled Vidrios
Number five, 17,5 am tall
Number 6, labelled riihimäen lasi, 21 cm tall
Number 7 & 8 is 12 cm tall, from Magnor
-
Hello and welcome to the board :)
Thanks for sharing some of your lovely collection - you have some great shapes there. I'm sure someone will be able to help identify many of your pieces.
To help everyone using the board to be able to refer to vases once they have been identified, please can you put up each piece on a separate thread and ensure your pictures enlarge so the detail of each piece can be seen. I tend to make mine around 600 on the longest side and this seems to work.
It also helps if you post no more than three different items per day otherwise it tends to push other people pieces off the first page :)
A description of each piece is also helpful, what kind of rim, the dimensions, what the base is like etc along with a side on pic, a base pic and any other pics (max of 4 per post) that you feel will be helpful to id.
I'm looking forward to seeing larger pictures of your vases.
m
-
Will do!
Thanks for the advice :)
-
Meanwhile, I'll move this topic into our Collections topic as it will fit well there. :)
-
Some amazing collection Displays! Very beautiful glass indeed! Here is a Video of my Uranium/Vaseline Glass Display:
Hope you enjoy :)
http://www.youtube.com./watch?v=Sn5htU-UiP4 (http://www.youtube.com./watch?v=Sn5htU-UiP4)
-
Wow! iCollect, what a cool way to show off your collection! Thank you for sharing. :)
-
Well, I certainly enjoyed it, and I can think of someone else who probably did, too ;) I think I spotted a couple of 'triffids' in your collection, which is what most of mine consists of.
I'm shown my collection before, but I'm always adding to it so here it is again. I can't show it under UV light, as I'm not good enough at photographing things under UV, but here's a link to a pic of my Uranium cabinet. It's even had a few additions since the pic was taken, but I can't keep taking a new pic every time I buy something else ;D
https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/YdZR_v1V9Y32mJKYEzgbY06VT9CPW4RONEljdDcuTzc?feat=directlink
Not sure how much more I can fit in! What shall I do then? I've already moved all the Cranberry and Uranium stuff out to a shelf in another cabinet! :o
https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/-vJaUrYJPvkWyExvJG_k4E6VT9CPW4RONEljdDcuTzc?feat=directlink
-
Thanks for the positive reviews! Yes Triffids are Scarce here were I live I think most of the ones I own I have bought over from England.
I Love both of your collection photos! Any of your pieces missing 'Thorns'? There hard too find in undamaged condition!
-
;D ;D ;D I had to laugh at your question! While I do have a few in perfect condition, MOST of my collection are missing thorns! - at the very least! Many are missing toes, feet and even legs! ::) You are right, it is nearly impossible to find these without damage of some sort. But as long as they 'still display well' as the saying goes, I don't mind :)
-
Haha, Glad im not the only one who hides little missing parts! That large Candelabra? you have in the middle on the top shelf is impressive! Could you post a picture of it on its own?
-
Ah! That one is actually one of the ones in perfect condition! Not a thorn tip missing! :D
Since you like my collection, here's a link to the picasa album. Enjoy! ;D

Fantastic photographs! Makes me want too hunt a few more of these for my own collection!
This one is a beauty (any chance of selling?? :P :P)
https://picasaweb.google.com/elaine.simons/TriffidsAndAudreys?authuser=0&authkey=Gv1sRgCMG4ib6xwsbQSQ&feat=directlink#5785843458704522834
-
Alister,
(sorry, not been on this thread for a while)
I think some of the swans on your top shelf are Edinburgh Crystal ones. I've seen them with labels on, have come to be able to recognise them, although your images don't blow up quite well enough for me to be sure....
and... big question here! Do I see a neodynum deer with coloured long horns in there? Are the horns amber, and are they uranium, and is there any other colour in it?
Does it look as if it is related to this little beauty? (scroll down to the second post for the daylight pics)

Most of my glass collection is from the North East of England, with a preference for that of the glassworks of my home town Sunderland/Monkwearmouth so it is mostly old. Since I also collect sewing machines and...well lets say I have a double dose of the collectors gene, space is limited.
These are a small selection of my miniatures most of which I think you will recognise-the really fine cranberry is Glasscraft from the North East, the tiny (less than 1cm) dolphin & penguin were made as I waited at a fair at the hotel used for the tv soap 'Crossroads' around 1985.
I do sometimes worry about putting all my eggs in one basket.
-
Guess who just found a shop selling black light bulbs and strip lights?
-
Keith, I see two Webb pwts there - the one on the left looks as if it's the spider engraving, but the one on the right looks as if it might be one of the other designs - it seems to have star-cutting on the base.
I thought the Uranium weights were always spiders.... ???
Can anybody enlighten me?
-
Not this one Sue,getting a few of these now, considering they were only made for a short time(so I read somewhere)there are loads of colours and patterns including advertising weights. ;D ;D
-
I have my Uranium spider, and that's the only one I want, Keith.
The paperweightiness of it is a minus point, (I don't collect pwts) but the uranium and the spider are two major plus points I could not resist. ;D
In Hajdamach, 20th Century British Glass, p.379, the caption to plate 806, (a photograph of these weights) reads;
"Cased, cut and engraved weights by Webb Corbett from the mid-1970s. Designed by David Smith, the work's designer, the weights were only made for a short period of time."
Shame we don't know exactly how short. :-\
-
Short period but very busy,I see lots on my travels, never intended to collect pwt's but ::),here's my clear spider and one with what looks like a company logo ;D ;D
-
Part two of the uranium collection ;D
-
A blue-ish collection of sorts
or..well just all my purple and blue glass on a table
Helga
-
Linsmins :o that is a huge collection of animals and figurines - amazing. Are they all catalogued?
Hel, I love blues and purples together, the colours just look perfect together.
m
-
Finally got round to completing my 'English only' shelves, any one spot one that's not? ;D ;D
-
3rd pic down, the clear ribbed vases with cranberry and blue bits. ;D
I was reading the recent thread in which there were shown. I don't forget everything.
-
The blue one is marked Webb so I presume the other is also Webb ;D
-
Is that a black and white Murano vase on the top shelf of the first picture Keith?
-
Not as far as I know,it came with a Royal Brierley art glass sticker but I've seen similar pieces by Caithness,I think it was anyway ::) ;D ;D
-
What about the tall thin black one on the top shelf og the bottom picture... looks like Sandeman Sherry logo!?
-
Does look a bit like it,it's a signed piece by Malcolm Sutcliffe, come to think, there might be two pieces that shouldn't be there ::) ;D ;D
-
Wow, I would never have put Malcolm as the maker of that vase... ya live and learn!!
So we are looking for 2 pieces eh? Hmmmm... wish they were animals, that would make it much easier for me ???
-
Here are two units with all my retro glass. Wooden shelves, on the top is Skrdlovice, Beranek, Mstisov, Chribska, Kosta Boda and more. Below I have Murano, Holmegaard, Whitefriars and more.
Glass shelves, Iittala, Riihimaen, Orrefors, Nuutajarvi, and more.
Good news, Apple just did a massive update and now I can upload directly from my iPad to boards. Excellent!
Adam
-
Loving your glass "column" dispay shelving almost as much as the glass!
This isn't really a display image, but I had perfect light in the utility room for the first time this year, decided to grab the window of opportunity to take some pics. Of course, the batteries were flat and I didn't manage much and the sun had moved by the time the batteries were charged.
I had these bits lined up, waiting to be properly posed etc. for individual and group pics, when the sun caught them and they all just came alive - I had to grab this pic before it vanished! Obviously it's a flat, 2-D image, you can't capture the effect of the experience of seeing it in one flat image.
-
Bought another display unit. So now I have one either side of my sofa. Filled it with Msisov Rhapsody, IOW (Glasform and Siddy Langley) and glass animals.
Adam
-
I want to see the bottom shelf please Adam. :-)

What a beautiful way to display them Gary! Very classy indeed.
(Adam, please, when you have a moment, I really would love to see the bottom shelf !)
-
Only been collecting for about two weeks. So much to learn. Mainly junk I think. LOL
-
For a beginner, that's fairly sophisticated junk.... where are the bits of frilly Chance Fiestaware with wedding anniversaries on them that we normally start off with?
-
I wouldn't mind some of your junk...its a lovely collection !!! ;D
-
Sue, love the Mdina colours and shapes - they're beautiful.
And the display of Monart is fabulous :)
The sun came out amidst the fog so I took a quick pic of some uranium Victorian glass on a shelf on my display

I've made it thru a few of the threads still making my way thru all of these. I love looking at your collections! So much great stuff!
here is my contribution
https://picasaweb.google.com/thefiresidecatt/Newfolder3?authuser=0&authkey=Gv1sRgCOm13va1y_TnVA&feat=directlink
I ended up with 39 photos so it's easier just to create a folder. LOL. I didn't get everything but it's a solid sampling. :)
Flying free. Love that victorian oil lamp a couple pictures up.
-
hmm I was hoping to edit that post? Can you not do that any more? I've gone on a couple arrangement missions of the shelves this year, then I get distracted because I have so much glass so I end up with mish mash shelves or shelves that are nearly empty or just crowded to the point of ridiculousness. It's definitely a work in progress for me. I need more shelves.
Selena posted a thread back.. she had a tall white piece with lilies I think, and an amber piece with birds..
The white one is Josephinenhuette and the amber one is most likely Harrach (maybe Josephienhuette as well)
-
What a beautiful collection Alisa, and I even noticed a few little animals sneaking into one of the cabinets!! :)
I laughed when I read you kept getting distracted when reorganising! I have the same problem! I need more shelves and have over 10 boxes of glass animals and birds packed away.
Believe it or not, I promised myself I would never do this and could never understand how anyone could, but, well here I am with not enough cupboards and too few shelves with too many pieces of glass I can't bear to part with!!
According to my friends, I am obsessed with glass and am now classed as a serious collector!! :o
-
lol yeah I've started selling a little both to free up room and to fund future purchases. when it started ending up in boxes I started thinking WTF am I doing? I probably have 10 or 15 glass animals. Everyone needs at least one or two.
-
Gary, Love the Monart piece!
-
Please may we see a picture of the animals all together Alisa, just for the animal lovers amongst us? ;D
-
Only been collecting for about two weeks. So much to learn. Mainly junk I think. LOL
Is that a large glass bunny I spy at the front? :)
-
wow Azelismia! what an absolutely amazing collection - so many that each time I looked at a new one, I was saying to myself 'no, that's my favourite, ahh no, that's my favourite' :)
I love the enamelled ones of course. Wonderful. Thanks for sharing.
m
-
Thanks Flying Free. Enameled glass has definitely been a focus for me over the last number of years :)

A collection of studio pieces.
Two Will Shakspeare pieces, a Sarah Richardson egg, a Glasform pear, a John Airlie bowl, an okra vase, a Siddy Langley vase and a Stuart Akroyd bottle.
Adam
-
They are lovely Adam, if I was going to give up collecting animals and birds that is the type of glass I would collect....I already have 3 IOSG shells and they are not animals are they!? ;D
-
Love the cobalt pieces Adam!
-
What a lovely collection Azelismia I would happily include about 40% of it immediately in mine if I had enough money to tempt you.
Ross

Some of my collection in Shanghai. Thankfully everything made it here safely :)
-
Drool! Oh they are beautiful, exquisite! and I am so in awe of such a beautiful collection. I am so pleased they arrived safely. :)
-
A feast for the eyes! :)
Thanks for sharing.
-
Steven I'm glad they arrived in one piece :) - that green bubbly pulegoso vase is gorgeous!
And you transported that beautiful Nazeing as well - I love that vase.
m
-
My little collection.
Please excuse the display on the photo.

One of many curio cabinets.
FUN fun... ;D
-
Superb piece of coralene and beautiful iridescent shell :)
thanks for sharing.
m
-
Thanks, the coralene is one of my favorite vases signed Webb.
My home is so full of glass. I wish it could all be better displayed.
Oh well it makes me quite happy. ;)
-
A few more favorites...well I think they're all my favorites.
I love glass. ;D
-
I've never been able to display my glass until now. I've bought and assembled some cabinets especially for my bits and pieces. Here is my tall cabinet with my favourite pieces. No theme really except 'organised'!
-
And here is one of two wall mounted cabinets for glass figures. This one is mostly the larger items and I've yet to get the other one on the wall for the smaller figures.
I'm so pleased I've finally got somewhere to put these things. :)
-
No wonder you were desperate to show them off, Nancy - what fabulous arrangements!
I even love the pink cats - they look as if they're poised to make a very nasty stink....
(if they do, use a bit of soduim bicarbonate to get rid of it ;) )
-
They look great!
m
-
What wonderful displays you are treating us all to.... I haven't visited this thread for a little while, and have just had a lovely time browsing through all the collections....Thank you all, and Nancy I adore all your cheeky monkeys!! :)
-
Thanks for looking guys. I just love that I can finally give the glass the space it deserves.
-
and then you find you need more cabinets ;D which immediately become full within a day.
m
-
This is true M. I've been browsing the Ikea catalogue again!!!
-
It certainly is true m and Nancy! I found the perfect cabinet from Lidl for all the smaller pieces, went back to get a couple more and they had all gone!!
If you see what you want, get them whilst you can, all the shops seem to change their styles so quickly!! Aaaagh!
-
Hey Rosie, my cabinet with the figures was from Lidl - possibly the same one you got, only I got two! It is very comforting to have stuff behind glass and know that one will never have to get the duster to them.
-
Hi Nancy, I got the tall version of the birchwood framed one like yours and it was so well made, which is why I went back for more, but alas...well you know with Lidl, when it's gone it's gone. I wrote to HQ and they said to look out for more in a couple of months....so I am on Lidl Alert!!
I have all my IOW minimals and a few other smaller pieces in it and it does look good.
-
Wishing you luck with that Rosie! :)
-
Thanks Nancy....Red Alert everyone please!! ;D
-
Group of brightly coloured opaline glass enamelled and gilded variously c1840-1880
Bohemian, Russian (plate), English (yellow vase probably)
m
-
Nancy, they are SPECTACULAR!! What a wonderful collection, and so nicely displayed as well. You must be one very proud owner of those special pieces.
Thank you for sharing.
-
Like those m,the cabinet is rather nice also, ;D ;D
-
Oh m, I meant you, sorry, I went back to change it and found I had passed the change by time!! Sorry, (but your glass is also wonderful Nancy, as I have already said!! :-*).... don't get old and try to multitask at the same time, it doesn't work!! :o
-
A few Mdina bits and pieces...
-
:o
What a superb tricorn bottle - best I've seen, ever!
The Onion vase is good too - they're very interesting. When the book was being writen, nobody had a clue how scarce they were - but they were considered to be very scarce. This was based on how many had been seen over the lifetimes of both Mark Hill and Ron Wheeler - but was before Mdina became as highly collectable as it is now.
The "price" listed in the seperate printed guide (which came with the first 100 or so copies) was therefore perhaps slightly OTT at £1500. ;D (albeit signed by MH)
And Onion bottles started coming out of the woodwork like nobody's business! (well, maybe 30 or so ::))
It was found too, that they had been made for a short while after MH left, probably by Joseph Said - I would suspet yours is his work - his tend to have the more bulgy bottom part; MH's ones tend to have a much smoother curve from base to rim; and his stripes are more regular.
The thing I find very interesting is that, since the initial rush they have dried up almost completely.
Perhpas the initial "very scarce" diagnosis was more correct than later assumed. :)
-
Thanks Sue. I was really pleased with Tricorn bottle. It's quite a recent purchase. Can post some more pics if you're interested. The onion vase is a signed Michael Harris piece. Had to push the boat out a little further for that one but still well worth it I think...
-
Here's a few more of the Tricorn bottle...
-
;D So much for my bulgy bottom theory!
Good to find out that I was wrong - I won't make that mistake again. 8)
I don't buy signed stuff - far too expensive - and a piece doesn't look any different for having something written on the base. The only signed bits I have, I got very early on.
I keep my Onion vase (un-signed, and un-bulgy-bottomed) on a Davisdon green cloud glass plinth. It really does look extra good, slightly elevated by a nice plinth.
-
Plinth is a good idea, Sue. I think I have one somewhere. Completely agree with you that it's only worth getting signed pieces if you don't have to pay a premium for them. After all, the beauty is in the piece not the signature...
-
My tricorn bottle isn't amethyst (*pout*) - just plain old blue, (but I got it for £12 + p&p ;D).
When it arrived, I thought there was something wrong with the shape! :-[
-
£12!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please tell me it was a long time ago!?
I love the bottles. I'm quite keen to get my hands on an Isle of Wight attenuated bottle.
Do you know when Tricorns were in production from and till, Sue?
Is Amethyst a rarer/more desirable colour?
Looking forward to when I finally get to move so I can get everything on display again...
-
Yes, it was a very, very long time ago. Probably around 2001.
I believe the tricorn bottles were not produced after Michael Harris left, and amethyst would be more scarce - yours is the first I've seen - and I happen to like amethyst, so to me it is more desirable.
-
Many thanks. Would it be possible to see a picture of your bottle?
-
Nice tricorn. Not sure it is the best I have ever seen though, I prefer mine. :) Although your shape is very well defined I must admit.
I have seen a few onions on my travels around the south east.
-
Is yours blue or amethyst? ;D
(Will get pics soon, need to track them down, sort and fix them for posting)
-
some of my murano items:
-
Lovely display!
BTW, I had the same desk lamp for many years, great 1950s design :)
Michael
-
thanks michael!
i just looked through your collection :o
wow - gorgeous pieces, especially the skrdlovice objects... and i like your pottery pieces!
sandra
-
My "wall display" from Curitiba - Brazil. The upper shelves have clear crystal pieces and, due to built-in light on the niche, look like they are empty.
-
Lovely! Your built in display units are wonderful - I'd love something like that for my glass.
-
But how many hundred of them would you need Anne?
Ross
-
Never mind more shelving.. ;D... I may need to move house very soon!! :o This is only part of my collection!!!
-
...more...
-
...whoops sorry doubled up...more..I
was going to say this is half my collection but my husband just pointed out all the stuff dotted around the house so I guess its a third :-\
-
Hundreds, Ross? Thousands I think! Like Angela, I need a bigger house! :)
-
Gone a bit radioactive... :o :o ;D ;D

Gone a bit radioactive... :o :o ;D ;D
lol.......YOU or the Glass? I love it Keith!!
Love to see all the homes and how you arrange your Glass.....and How much you have everyone!!
W - O - W to All ....

Been weird for years Rose, can't blame the glass though, ;D ;D
-
My favourite part of the shelf at the moment, probably looks better under normal light, ;D ;D

Three of my living room Ysart glass displays.

-
The bathroom collection ;)
-
My small and varied collection... If I like it, and I can afford it - I buy it!! I don't profess to know much about glass, but I know what I like..... which I think is important. :)
Thanks for looking. ;D
Red.
-
Gary - you are just plain weird. ;)
It is all properly organised, colour co-ordinated, beautifully balanced and beautifully lit.
There is not one speck of dust in sight.
You have spaces between the pieces you are displaying.
The architecture of your house, the furniture, the accessories, are all period matched...
are you in league with old nick that you have succeeded in achieving all that? 8) 8) 8)
Simba - delighted to see your bathroom is not devoid of glass - so many folk forget that is a room which has space for glass - your display is very apt - lovely cool watery colours, and elegant shapes. just the right sort of atmosphere.
Red-UK
Liking it is the best and only way to go! What is that great big lollipop at the top?
-
Lol!! The "Lollipop" is Mdina! :)
-
Well, there you go. ;D
Later than my interest or knowledge - but my guts spoke.

I sold my soul to the devil for a dust free house ;D ;D.
These photos were taken after the weekly dusting.
Gary

WEEKLY dusting... ?
weirdness confirmed. ;)

The 'D' Word!! Aaaaagh! :o
-
I normally put my glass together by era, but I find that quite limiting. So I've tried to just use colour and shape as the deciding factor here.
The age range is about 125 years from earliest (Molineaux Webb pike 1885) to most recent (blue bowl 2011) and covers Victorian, Art Nouveau, Art Deco, 60s/70s and early ish and more recent Studio glass.
I've been playing around with the camera settings to try and get some good pics.
This glass is in a room used in the evening rather than daytime - the last pic is what it looks like during the day.
m
-
I've handled that amber ram!
Bet you didn't know that. ;D It was being passed around for inspection at the Fair in November. I distictly remember passing it over my own head to Robbo.
It's all very elegant and sophisticated, m. Makes me despair of my own muddle. ;)
-
Thanks Sue.
I love that piece, I have a small collection now :) Just looking for the red and all will be well :o
m
-
I'll keep my eyes peeled, but don't hold your breath. It is a fabby thing. I know. I've held it, inspected it and examined it. ;D
-
Thanks - I've only ever seen one and I can't even find an image of that now :)
the yellow ball in front of the purple vase is a v.large beautifully coloured ochre Mdina paperweight.

What a lovely display

Hi,
just thought I'd get round to adding my themed displays to this thread - some of my Ysart glass collection - firstly (part) of my orange themed glass, then my multi-coloured stuff .
hope you like it!
Roberta
-
You need to put the Uranium bits under the spotlight, Roberta! :P
;)
-
Yes I know - it does look better at night but i still need to sort out the lighting properly! Experimenting with different lighting - unfortunately I need to take a trip to Ikea :(
Roberta
-
Take a reel of cotton with you. Tie the end of the thread to the front door handle and unroll it as you go round, keeping hold of the reel.
That way, you might be seen again... some day. ;D
-
A superb display of Ysart glass you have there.
Gary
-
Thought I'd bore everyone with the on going Royal Brierley Studio collection, ::) ;D ;D ;D, not the whole collection :o
-
Some lovely pieces you have there Keith - er, is this most of the collection .......or a small part of it :D
Every time I see a piece of Royal Brierley now I think of you!
-
Thanks Roberta, there are another 15 pieces of the studio range then a couple of RB'y art glass some crystal and not forgetting all the Stevens & Williams stuff ! ::) ;D ;D Even did some d.......g before I took the photo !
-
Love them Keith.
Ross
-
;D ;D
-
Ashtrays anyone?
-
Lovely ashtray display!
-
I like them too Chris.
Ross
-
Another update, still not all the pieces as have run out of space on this unit ::) ;D ;D
-
So happy after my trip down south. I had found the small vase online and found the two bigger ones at two different antique stores.
Gunnar Nylund for Strömbergshyttan, 1954. I hope to be able to find some more pieces. There has to be some more patterns in the engraving.
-
I've really been enjoying browsing this thread at all the wonderful displays, haven't got all the way through yet but thought I'd put one of ours up in the meanwhile. The main theme is 'how much colour can we get on one windowsill' ;) with a sub theme of cased/sommerso (mainly Italian) and a smattering of uranium glass. I love watching the colours and intensity change as the light alters during the day and night. Sorry it's not the best of photos but it's very difficult to photograph glass in a window! I put an extra pic of the left hand end as it doesn't show at all in the main photo.
-
Nice group you have Lucy.
Ross
-
This is one of my favourite time of the year, the leaves on the trees are turning into amazing colours of reds, orange, brown and yellow.
Below is my Monart Autumn Colour Collection 2015.
posted 2 to many pictures do not know how to remove them ::)
Gary
-
I'm always amazed seeing the displays over here, so much attention to detail and passion that just jumps out of the images!
-
Not really themed, but here's my current collection:
-
What I'm calling 'Chance Tower' more in other places but yet to be arranged, ;D ;D
-
Perhaps I should be calling this Mdina Towers then. :D
Just moved house and have stacked this lot on an old bookcase. It is most but not all of the Mdina I have here topped off by attenuated bottles from Isle of Wight Studio Glass. It won't stay like this as I will spread the glass around the place.
John
-
Those bottles on the top are great ! Mdina Tower it is !
-
I'm not sure I would be shifting them, John. It looks pretty amazing to me. ;D
-
There is a cat that visits and she tends to make herself at home, I am worried that she might knock things over so any displays are going to have to be 'cat safe'. Items will have to be out of jumping range and stuck down with museum gel.
-
My felines are pretty well behaved - they're just moggies and so far, I haven't had an adventurous one in combination with glass.
To discourage feline interest, I shoved a load of lemons amongst the bits of glass on the bottom and next up shelves. The smell was enough to make them mostly ignore it as a climbing frame.
But if it's near a window a cat might like to look out of, stick it all down firmly.
If they suddenly see something outside, they'll not pay a blind bit of attention to what they kick over on their way to get a better look.
-
Lit by a couple of strip lights, the top of these kitchen cabinets should be feline proof...
-
I like the ledge that sticks out a bit on the top there. :)
I covered the surface of my cupboard tops with greaseproof paper before putting glass up on them, it helps stop them from getting stuck with kitchen grease. They still get dirty, but can be cleaned. It's just easier than trying to clean the flat surface.
I don't use the extractor fan. The noise frightens the cats too much and I don't like it either.
The tops of kitchen cupboards are wonderful places for displaying glass. 8)
-
Absolutely love that display John - the shapes and colours are perfect.
Are the strip lights electric? (secretly wondering how to strip light my long shelf ledge in the kitchen now)
m
-
Been a while putting these together, the 'Maltese' connection, bit more common than recent posts ;D ;D
-
That is a lovely selection of Maltese glass Keith... did it take long to amass?
-
Thanks Rosie, it's Linda's collection more than mine, we've been adding to it for 5-6 years or more, I think, ::) ;D ;D
-
Something a bit different, this ones called Fauna & Fungi ::) ;D ;D
-
Cocktail umbrellas
-
We mix in the glass and barware with china, etc. We also have lit up pedestals (see corner) that really show the glass off well!
-
:)
I don't know the pattern on the casserole dish, but if that is Corning heat resistant glass, you should have it in the kitchen and be using it. You don't need to worry about spoiling it - it doesn't spoil, it cleans up perfectly every time. It's better than Pyrex and Pyrasil. It's amazing and practical stuff. I love it.
Thanks for showing us your collections - amazing! ;D
-
Just wanted to share.
This is the Special cabinet where the favourites from the collection end up.
Mostly signed studio pieces :)
-
My Komaromy cabinet now has proper lighting in it, so I thought it was time to share with you all.
There are one or who non-Komaromy pieces in there that I couldn't resist adding as I thought they sat well with the collection.
I can do close-ups of some if anyone would like.
-
Fabulous collection there Rosie. I remember when you didn't have any of them... I wonder how many are left out in the wild for you to find?! :D
-
I'm also treating this as a Hello! I'm New post...because well, I'm new ;D
Wish I had known about this site 5 years ago! Ah well...
So I'm super, super picky. I am not trying to collect ALL vintage Culver Barware, or ALL vintage Japanese trays and other dishware, or ALL Laural Birch mugs. Instead, I buy items that I really love and would actually use (sparingly, of course!). I got into Culver glass accidentally, while researching vintage 60's bar carts. Still don't have one, I got distracted ::)
I just moved and am still acquiring furniture and such, but here's what I have unpacked so far...Still looking for a vintage bar cart, btw.
Meanwhile, I do have the pictured vintage caddy, which holds 1 glass of of some sets I own. While there is a lot of Culver barware in that caddy, there is also a Libby collection called "Patrician", and what I THINK is a Dorathy Thorpe highball set (no markings), as well as a couple of just cool, unmarked one-offs. Also seen are some unmarked 70's bowls with a white and gold pattern (great for ice cream), and a couple of Laural Birch mugs (not exactly vintage, but getting harder and harder to find now. NIB go for $30+ on ebay). The tray and matching mugs are vintage Otagiri "Blue Iris".
The small round tray holds glasses I use ALL the time. The small Libby "Patrician" glasses are great for juice. I'm looking for more cordial glasses like the one seen here. That shape is uber hard to find. ARG! Vintage sets of similar go for $200+ online, and I paid $2 for the cordial glass in the photo, at a thrift shop last year. I saw a set of 6 glass Baccarat set of similar shape and size going for $2,500 last week, online. Yeesh!
Finally, because this is my favorite set and fit's in with my Coastal (but not kitchy) theme, my Culver Malibu set all together, missing 1 glass. Boo Hiss.
I have some other stuff, but it's mostly one-off vintage barware from the 60's. I'm currently in the market for some Culver glass trays, and other small Culver glass sets under $100. I used to collect Antique Art Deco glasses, but after many accidents (and higher prices as time went on), I decided on a different collection idea that would not break the bank...at least not initially.
-
Welcome to the board Pandora, and thanks for sharing your collection with us. I've not heard of Culver before.
-
Welcome to the board Pandora, and thanks for sharing your collection with us. I've not heard of Culver before.
Thank you, Anne!
Culver is an American company, and for all parts and purposes, not around anymore. (Ok, they are sorta, but the contemporary glasses are way different, dunno who they are trying to fool).
In any case, I did actually find the ONE Culver thread on here, and I posted a "reference" reply yesterday. I gotta say that in person, the glasses I have are AMAZING. My crappy photo's do not do them justice at all.
-
This is my collection of uranium glass. I started collecting in October last year when I retired with the intention of collecting vintage coloured glass, Whitefriars etc, but then I found a piece of uranium glass and now.....!
-
;D ;D very nice
-
:) Nev, have a look at the My Gallery link under Lustrousstone's signature.
I think you'll find lots and lots of stuff to tickle your fancy there.
Did you know that green is not the only colour Uranium glass comes in? It can be shades of yellows, several shades of amber, blue, turquoise and even the odd bit of pink.
-
Hello Sue, yes I've several yellow and amber pieces, see photo, but I've only seen one blue piece locally which was a lovely decanter and glasses, possibly Baccarat, which was priced at £200.
-
I see a couple of Webbs there. :)
You might need Lustrousstone to help you with the goblet. :)
This is a link to something on the first page of the "My Gallery" - aqua uranium.

Hello you all
as i mentioned I´m a little crazy because A collect every glass which affects me somehow.
I start with my collection of vases which are inspired from volumetric flasks out of the lab. the second picture, I put some of these bottles beside. These lab bottles are old as well, one is with the normal temperature of 15 °C which was changed to 20°C in the beginning of the 20C , so this bottle has to be 100 years old.
the big violett one and the violett with the long neck I don´t know from where they are. The bigger green one is Pukeberg Sweden, the small green one is ingrid glass. the amber onbe is veeeeeerrrryyy thin, lih´ght as a butterfly with wave rim and poked into the bulb. the red one I agin have no clou where it is from.
the next 2 pictures are my window ceiling in the bath room. Starting on the left side with old cod bottles 1 >German one American and 2 from Dublin. they laying bottle is I think very old as well, but i don´t know anything about it., the a couple of green , old medicin bottles follow and than a lot of old labority equipment follows. in the end brown glas from a lot different uses and apothecary glasses.
I hope you like them, and see the next post, there I go on with the bath ceiling
-
here comes the rest of my window ceiling in the bath room.
left we start with Holmegaard michael Bang the carneby serie, follwoed from a Otto Brauer Gulvase inspired vase, I doubt that mine is a Gulvase. the 2 Tango vases, the bigger one might be Lötz, but is damaged, the small one has the black stribes only "painted". then a long collection of Klukflasks follows, mostly Holmegaard and Kastrup.
-
Interesting collection you have there.... I'm sure some of the members here will be able to help you attribute makers to the pieces you are not sure of. :)
-
;D I've been waiting for these. You even have some REAL volumetrics - my hands can just feel what it's like holding the neck and gently swirling the bottom around to dissolve something - they have such a pleasing feel, balance and weight. ;D ;D ;D
Your glass is all shiney. You've been cleaning it, I can tell. ;)
I've cleaned mine up a bit too, but haven't any pics yet. I discovered my really massive red one is actually a lamp base! It's got a hole drilled in the bottom. I found out when I lifted it (ever so carefully and gently!) out of the sink and soaked myself.
All these bottles and lab style stuff looks fabulous against your white lab-like bathroom. It's the perfect backdrop.
Do you consider your kitchen and bathrooms to just be other laboratories too?
Ones where you can practise bucket chemistry!
-
having a lamp foot in shape of these flasks must be gourgios.
I´m working in a lab, so collecting lab glass is enough of lab at home, during the day I have enough chemestry.
When I was child I practissed some chemisty in the cellar of my parents, they were not so happy, they wanted me to work in a bank, much to boring to me ;D.
yes you are right, these are cleaned , but not for the pics, I did it 2 weeks ago. I´m working on an excell sheet in the moment were I discribe every item, giving numbers and linking them to my photo database.
I`m nearly 60 and I´m afraid that once I could die and my brother looks at all the glass and brings it to a glass container. I started in the bathroom and by giving the numbers, I cleaned them.
I will go on to present my glass, may be we come to some discussions by this.
Monika
-
So I go on with my collection
we are still in the bathroom, on the left side you see some aerometer, you can measure the density of fluids with these, you may know them from car batterys. in front of the aerometers is a weighing boat out of deer horn/ antler
then right from the old tin boxes two very old apothecary glasses are following, these I think are 1850 or older. The glass is very violett from manganium and the labes are hand written/painted by I think maybe cold enemal. Then a collection of funny glasses are following, the most seldom one is that with the papermachee cover to protect from light, that is in very good condition. And i think funny is the small bottle in the front with the diamond shape stopper, how delicat for a simple iodine bottle. The iodine is still in... the stopper is absolutely frozen in.
Hope you enjoyed them
monika
-
Wow, Monika, what lovely displays you have made, and your views around your home are beautiful. I think we would have had a lot of fun searching for glass together!
-
I haven't got past droo-oooling over your case of beautiful graded density meters...
I want to watch them bobbing around in different molarities of salt solutions. ;D
-
Thanks you both. Yes old Lab glas is sometimes very funny. Tomorrow I show you 2 very funny items, one will be a riddle, but I know the answer ??? ;D
@ cat: I would love to dig in all your traesure boxes, that will be like digging for gemstones and finding them at least.
Today I will go on with my dining room and the big entrance of this farming house.
Monika
-
Don't give us the answer! ;D
I can remember when glass coils for Gas-Liquid-Chromatography had to be hand blown and packed, activated and conditioned. No buying "ready made" coils in!
I'm ready for your challenge. 8)
-
Now we are comming to the dining room. One Ceiling only for 70th Zwiesel designed by Heinrich Löffelhard. A little place is offered to Bitossi Ceramics designed by Aldo Londi series rimini blue
on the cupboard 3X Myra WMF and eisch 1990 in the Middle
Now my favorits in the entrance, I call it the nature corner. the pink plate from Walther glass Nymphen from the 30th. Left hand side new Walther Glass Bad Driburg bowl and jug with swans, the serie is called Schwanensee which is an opera. Then InwaldcCherries and Inwald/Libs Vase with seehorses. The small Manganium coloured bowl is from Valerysthal 1917 and the big pot is atributed to inwald. Neptuns horses, Mr Geiselberger from Pressglas korrespondenz is doubting that. He ment that the provinence will be unknown for the rest of the days, he thinks it is Rosice.
More soon, through my Collection
Mnika
-
I got my first Bitossi cat in Pisa in '76, brand new from a street stall. It cost me every penny of my "holiday spending money". :)
I still have it - and a few friends.
What is the clear ball with grey applied strapping underneath your shelf in the first photo?
I have a vase with green strapping which looks very closely related - it has a rectangular yellow and foil label which reads "Made in Western Germany" - but I have never managed to find out the maker.
You need an Inwald forest vase to add to your nature corner. ;)
http://www.artnet.com/artists/josef-inwald/in-the-forest-vase-7aloup8dZHvzbw11cw8aRA2
-
they grey clear vase... I don´t have a clou. For me it is the second choose :'(
it is not made well, sharpe edges and very untidy. I never found out as well, but I think it is 70th, and I think German
the wood vase of inwald, or better the elephant vase, I would love it, but absolutely too expensive.
the seehorse vase is a new copy, they only way to pay it :-\ :'(
I just posted the riddle.. and it got lost in the net.. grrrr
So once again please
Monika
-
Sue wanted a riddle, here it is. If anybody solves it, I will send one of my old aerometers as reward.
Funny labware, here we are.
left hand only funny , no riddle, astopper for boiling to drip the condensed liqid back
in the middle the smallest round bottom flask I ever saw wnd I never saw one again, the stopper is nearly to big.
Now on the right side my riddle. a flat tiny disc , mothblown with quite a big neck/ stopper. The history of this: when I was 17 (43 years ago) I learned in a company which celebrated its 100 birthday. The area was near the habour of Hamburg and drowned evere 10 years in a flood, so they decided to move. In one forgotten corner of the store a big wooden box packed with the lab Equipment of 100 years. So i had to unpack it and to see what moves, what goes to the rubbish and what dissapears into my bag.. this disc dissappeared. One hint... the stopper is not to remove. Any clou what you see? I would never had known it when it had not that Label what got lost unfortunately.
the last funny labthing is this filterzylinder. the stopper goes down to the bottom and has a glassfrit... a glass swamp.. in the end wher you can press the liquid through.
Now I post this first without the pics, because this is the second time I write this, first everything got lost in space.
Photos will come in some minutes

I have seen tiny tubes like your B7, but have not used them. I have used glass filters, of many descriptions in various labs although they often came in big ceramic funnels.
I am mystified by your riddle after all!
I can't quite work out the shape - on one pic it looks like a flattened bubble, in the other, it looks as if there is a rim around the outside?
I am imagining it could be used as a flexible stopper for something that produces a gas, slowly?
The weight of the metal would hold it down, but enough pressure would release some of it, from under the weight of the metal, while preserving the "head-space" of the gas released above the liquid?
Or, it could be an early sort of flexible plug for a sink! ;D
(Our German '70s not best, but not dreadful glass, will remain a mystery for now. ::) )
-
Another hint... with gas you are so near like no one before
And it is a flattened bulb, like an UFO. The stopper is glued
Monika
-
Is it part of a flowmeter? (something for measuring how much gas passes or is released?)
I'm going to be dreaming about it tonight! ;D
-
No part of a flowmeter... nice dreams. I guess this is very unik, these sort of glasses did not survive offen.
Onother hint: it is a oneway glass

All I can come up with is a lid for a large flask (5l size) containing 2l of culture medium and a culture of bacteria for incubation.
But when i did that - I made a stopper out of a large cotton wool ball covered in aluminium foil and tied with string around the neck.
Or on top of something fermenting. I have been dreaming of beige yeasty beery froth bubbling up under it in a large test tube. ;D ;D
-
No, as I said, when I found it, it had a label. It was just an „ordinary“ flask for selling gas. The label said 99,9999 pure Argon gas. The metal lid is sealed, but on the top it has a small little opening where you can go through with a gas tight siringe and suck the gas out. Maybe there is still a little bit Argon in ;D ;D
I think 100 years ago these sort of gas was very costly so you could buy in these small amounts.

Aaah - something similar to glass balls containing water, for throwing at a fire.
Target balls. More info and some lab stuff in this link. :)
https://www.ysartglass.com/Moncrieff/JohnMoncrieff.htm
Not terribly effective, they were made under the name Monax who also made lab glass and lighting and domestic crockery.
in my defence, ;) I didn't know there was any access to the inside of the container - I did think it was completely sealed.
-
You are right, my photo is a bit dizzy where the little entrance is. Hard to see
These target balls are crazy, Asterix would say: the British are a little nuts :o ::)
-
The target balls are more Geriatrix. ;D
Without glass, we wouldn't have science. Prisms, Layden jars and Bell jars were all essential for modern science to begin. 8)

Because it's Sunday and I've nothing better to do whilst waiting for the in-laws to arrive, thought I'd share my current coffee table display of textured glass. Couple of Kosta snowball votives, couple of Liskeard, vases, a Whitefriars, a Riihimaki, and a big lump of sommerso Murano whose maker I did identify many years ago, but whom I have now forgotten and can't find the link.
-
Like the display, this is our coffee table at the moment ;D ;D
-
Hello Jeffington. Nice collection, is the flowerpot in the back a Rimini blue Aldo Londi , or a German Bodo Mans? Or just a look alike😬😉
-
Good spot. It is a Bitossi Rimini planter.
-
I love them, on page 27 you find my small Rimini blue collection

Great collection. I love the Bitossi cog vase. Amazing.

Hello good evening
I thought I go on with my collection.
I start with the petrol corner.
From left to right: Schwepnitz model Carola German
Graal Emil Funke Germany
Quite a few Suomi finland Rihiimäki
in front a decanter missing a stopper unknown
Here we come to the most worthful corner
Murano (not so worthful) and Kosta Boda Vike Lindstrand and Göran Wärf
I know the Kosta Vases are not old enough for most of you, but I love them. The blue, green Vike Lindstrand on the right side are from 1959 and theGgöran Wärf Miracle Vases I bought 2017 direct at Kosta. The tall Vicke Lindstrand vase is often to be found in books, for example in Judith Millers book glass of the 20th century. One of my absolut favorits.
on the left side a couple of Murano, makers mostly unknown all with perlora bubbles.
-
Your favourites are my favourites. ;D
-
Had to empty out my display cabinet so the gas man can get to the boiler tomorrow. Just a temporary situation, but looks rather good all together in my opinion.
-
;) That is an incredibly well organised "temporary solution for the plumber coming in". ;D
(mine ends up on the floor in heaps, not nicely colour and shape co-ordinated.)
-
mine ends up on the floor in heaps
I'm not brave enough to risk the floor.
-
In a different room to the plumber. On carpet. I'm not completely daft. :)
-
Monika, I do like your blue/clear perfume bottle in the third image.
-
Not the most important thing in the world at moment, just some light relief.
Had a bit of time today and decided to change the accumulation of glass on top of the bookcase.
Feel free to comment.
All the best and keep well.
Tim
-
;D ok. I love your two decanters.
And I remember the cow plates that match your jug. Oval-ish rectangles.
Exactly what you needed for the steak, peas and chips you had after a prawn cocktail starter and before the Black Forest Gateau pudding, in the '70s. ;D
-
I have not viewed this topic for a long time, looks like it might take me days to catch up!
Tim, who made the vase on the far right in your photo? It has the look of a bit of Sofiati.
John
-
Thanks for the kind words Sue, I thought I would get told off for having some ceramic in the picture :).
The cow milk jug is Arabia designed by Kaj Franck.
The decanters are Spanish cut James Powell.
John, I have tried my hardest and looked in my Swedish glass factories book to convince myself it is a Sandvik product(i'm into that glass at the moment).
To be honest the name you suggested I don't know but I will be having a look round on the net later.
Thanks again
-
I want the decanters to store vinegars and oils in, in the kitchen. I imagine they might be a tad on the expensive side, for that!
If your jug is proper Arabia, ;D I'm afraid the cow plates I remember were probably a "tribute" (knock-off) sold in petrol stations. :-[
-
Sofiati is a style I guess, very finely blown and therefore usually light in weight, generally 1930s Murano. Makers such as MVM Cappellin and Venini are worth looking into.
Try Soffiato as a search term too, my spelling not great!
-
Do you know anything at all about the very unusual colour the potential Soffiato is, John?
Not purple and not brown, somehow both at the same time, but still neither.
(I had a rather unusual bucket in that colour, covered in cut dragonflies. The colour is a mystery to me. I assumed a bohemian origin.)
-
Sue, you put into words exactly what I have been thinking about the colour of my Sandvik glass (if it is)
In my book there is Simon Gate design from the 1923 catalogue that is so similar I want to believe it is.
To me Sandvik glass is very underated.
John, for a vase which is 235mm tall it only weighs 360 grams.
Have not had time to look at the Italian options.
-
They both can share the same characteristics by the look of it, thinly blown soda glass, maybe muted colours. If we carry on perhaps the vase needs it's own topic?
-
Just had a look at that soffiato style glass and I can see were you are coming from John.
When I get home tomorrow I will load that vase up under its own topic.
Thanks
-
Sue, do you have a photo of the glass with the dragonfly engraving?
Its very difficult to judge colour shades with photos but would be interesting to see.
Thanks
-
:) I do. ;D I even found it yesterday. 8) In a form I can post here!
I was thinking about leaving it for your new thread, but it might as well go here to keep us illustrated.
This pic gets the colour right, although it does not show the bucket itself off, too well. :-[
-
That looks a stunning vase.
I put my trumpet shaped vase in glass identification.
Your vase looks interesting enough for its own identification.
Good luck and thanks for posting the picture.
-
Aw shucks, thanks. We got nowhere with it when it was first posted. :)
My brother got it - he's into cut stuff.
I've added it to your thread too. The colour is very weird and unusual. ;D
-
A small group from Finland:
-
Very nice! :)
I have not seen anything like the tall vase on the right at the back, with the big "ends" I see it has a Lasi label, but while many of us see Lasi oi around, I don't think we see that design. 8) ;D
-
Thanks Sue :)
I found that one in a thrift shop in Switzerland a week or two before everything closed down due to Covid-19.
It's not signed and but for the label I wouldn't have known what it is (even though Riihimäen being one of the few companies I'm starting to know and recognize at lest a little bit......) haven't had much luck finding anything similar on the web, until last week when I found this forum and a link to Designlasi.com that identifies it as a "Rulla 1319" apparently by Tamara Aladin and probably from the 1970s.
I havent taken a "lone" picutre yet but I can give the measurements if interested:
It's approx. 240mm in hight
the base is approx. 94mm in diameter and the top 115mm
(so it's bigger than the one shown in the link but based on the google picture search it comes in 3 (?) different sizes and in clear, amber and "my" blue)
The weight is 1.084kg
I really like the rolled in top :)
-
I have liked every bit of glass you have posted, Ysala. :)
I don't always know what it is, but I like it.
The rolled top piece is very interesting, thanks for adding the extra information. I'm sure others would want to know too. :)
-
Very nice group of glass, Ysala.
The Nanny Still bottle vase on the left hand side does it have a signature? and will you be collecting other colours in that range?.
Does the amber vase have a silver collar around the base?, if so these were given as presents and usually have some sort of personal
engraving on them.
Keep up the Finnish glass collecting.
Tim
-
Hi Tim,
yes, it is signed with "Riihimäen Lasi Oy Nanny Still" and it's what made me learn a little about Finnish glass design:)
It was my first find (and a very lucky one) - I had no idea what it was (and I guess neither had the person selling it), saw the signature - to me it was just a lot of gibberish, having never heard of Riihimäen - but I did like the colour and the feel of it and it cost next to nothing so I took it home. Did a little bit of research, found out that it's from Finnland and put it in a nice corner.
Strangely enough I found the other two pieces of the same beautiful dark petrol colour on two other flea markets (I love strolling through flea marktes....and can't wait for them to reopen ;D) only a couple of weeks and kms apart. Guess that Nanny Still bottle made me more aware of the beauty of these pieces.
If I get lucky again I wouldn't mind adding a few more to the "collection" but I'm not what you could call a serious collector so I'm not spending a lot of money (yet?)
They really are beautful in their simplicity and do look amazing as a group though...
The amber one is a recent addition (as are the little candle holders) but it's not signed or engraved. The base is clear glass. It only has a label.
But it's interesting to learn that they have been given as presents, now I'd like to find one of those, too ;) Did the company give those away?
The Finnish certainly do have some beautiful glass :)
-
The Nanny Still was a good find. Fortune favours the inquisitive.
The Finnish glass I have seen with either a top silver ring or a base silver ring have names of employees who have given long service to
a company or organisation when the leave.
This type of glass was sold in jewellers shops and I suppose they did the engraving as well.
You say the Finnish have some beautiful glass, I agree, and a lot of the classic shapes and colours were made to sell as ordinary
everyday things back then.
Happy hunting,
Tim
-
And they can still be used for what they were intended for. I don't get flowers very often but the one next to the Nanny Still bottle is my favourite one to use on occasion :)
Can you guess the theme?:
-
Freedom,Getting back to the sea and the sand after covid ??
-
This is my display on top of the bookcase.
Just for fun does anybody care to name the manufacturers or the import company.
Good luck,
Tim
-
;D Bottom row.:-
Isle of Wight Studio; Mdina; Stevens and Williams.
I'm too short to see the back row. ;D
-
All good on the front row :) The three at the back left are scarce items. The pinkish trumpet vase i think you helped me I/D it .
Thanks for the input.
Tim
-
Vasart or perhaps Monart - the pic is a bit pixellated. The rim is wider than I would imagine for Vasart, but the colours fit.
I do know the pressed pattern is a scarce one - but I can't remember where I saw it - it was recent. ;) Is it Polish? another Hortensja? (I seem to default to Hortensja. :-[ )
Company? Hmmmmm. Briard? (stab in the dark)
-
:) Yes Sue, Monart (my only piece). Nigel Benson said it could be an early item.
The other three may have a whitefriars/scandinavian connection.
Tim
-
Whew re. the very pink Monart. My reputation survives a little.
Scandi. and Wfs are not my areas.
But something to do with "Not George Hardy"? ;)
-
I think the moderators have had a busy time correcting all the G Hardy postings.
Nothing to to do with that company.
Clue, Capt H J Dunne Cooke.
-
Hi all,
Very common I know, and I hope this post is going in the correct area?
Off to hospital for a double hand operation, so only reading this forum for the next few days!
Some of my scandic glass, and I have loads of it.
Kind regards
Stacey
-
It has been a while since I have posted here. I thought I would drop by say hello and post a picture I took recently of a few of my favourite pieces. Be safe and be in care. Mac
-
Good Morning
Stacey: get well soon!
Mac: No wonder that these are your favorites, they are worth to be the number one, would like to own them my self

Thanks for the positive reviews! Yes Triffids are Scarce here were I live I think most of the ones I own I have bought over from England.
