Hi, another signature on mdina dated 1980 , any help appreciated, thanks Kieran
-
I've looked at this from all angles and sharpened up the image, I'm afraid I can't make it out.
If you would like to supply more pictures of the signature from slightly different angles and maybe a bit clearer, it may help.
Getting good clear pictures of a signature can be a pain I know, it drives me mad sometimes.

The second word looks like Paints
-
Dust the base with some talc so it sits in the recess of the signature and then re-photograph, it should be a little clearer and easier to see.

Christine I thought it said that, but I spent best part of 3 hours going through every bl**dy name that is in print for Mdina that I could find,
Not 1 name was anywhere near,
Maybe Mark will stop by, hopefully he will know,
I think I've found the "Mdina" sig, that is the same as this handwriting but that just made it even more intriguing.
I do wonder if its a helper rather than the artist.
-
Perhaps it's not a signature as such, the Mdina bit looks fairly standard, but rather a personal inscription to a studio visitor.
-
I see "Crown Paints." :-\

I see "Crown Paints."
hehe :D

my own interpetation was susan paints ? think i'll have to invest in mark hills book
as l have a vase thats also signed, thanks kieran
-
its well worth getting Mark's book, but
I'm afraid you won't find that signature in it. :spls:

I'm tending to agree with Della - it does look like Crown Paints. Crown Berger have a plant on Malta - I wonder if this was something made by Mdina as a company giveaway / award / other item? Might be worth asking them: http://www.berger.com.mt/
-
..and is this a seahorse or a stallion? They produced both - it looks more like a horse with a mane than a seahorse to me.

:)
These "seahorse" chess pieces were designed by Joseph Said - after he'd been asked to make a chess set, he decided to carry on making these Knights as paperweights.
That is not his signature, obviously. The script looks the same as the "Mdina" mark, so I'd think "Crown Paint" may well be a contender.
