A picture may help, see http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,6522.0.html for how tos.
How is it marked, acid, sandblasted, label? Picture or sketch of the mark would help.

hello
I asked about the GLS mark on a glass bird
THIS IS MARKED ON A SORT OF PLASTIC LABEL AT THE BOTTOM OF THE BIRD
THE 'G' is very big with the'L' in it and then the 'S' smaller in the 'G' near the 'L'
received it from UK
thanks again for an answer

See above. If you can post a photo of the bird this will help.

Janine, you can always just tell us which completed eBay auction to view, if you want. That way we could see the photo of it.

hello again
I have an urgent question
about a glass owl on ebay
280024679671
is this normal that the name Hellsten and Skruf is carved in the glass?
there is another one on ebay , looks similar to me, but this one has a label with Skruf, crown etc...
what is a correct marked Skruf glass bird?
then about 280026641029 on ebay ??? 'audubon wales' marked...where is that from? is this a glass manufacture?
I hope you can give me some advice...thank you very much
Nice this works...this forum, I mean, that I manage to communicate...I am not so very good with computers...

Hello Janine,
Hellsten is Lars Hellsten and the signature looks fine to me.
-
This little bird is made by Liskeard Glass, Cornwall. May be its like yours?
It has a sticker on the base with "LISKEARD Glass, Handmade in Cornwall" instead of the more usual mark of a letter L inside the letter G. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y195/glassie/Liskeardbird.jpg
It might even have this on the base underneath the sticker, but I'm not prepared to take it off to look though :P
My son just bought an owl this morning marked FM Konstglas Ronneby Sweden. I haven't seen it yet, but will take a picture when I do. The only other bird I have, is this little Hoglund penguin. Kind of cute isn't he :P http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y195/glassie/penguinbyHoglund.jpg

hello
thank you very much for the answer on my GLS question
and the one about Hellsten...
I am waiting for a bird to arrive with a mark from France that I also do not know...so I will have more questions in the future!
this is very nice this forum
thank you very much

hello again
I still wonder what is better as a marked glass bird
the etched Skruf Hellsten mark or the label/sticker from Skruf?
how come that some are etched and others not with the name of Hellsten?
Janine
-
hello
another question
is there anybody who knows something about the glassmark
FC France
and
if there is a glass manufacture BLARNEY in Ireland
thanks for an answer
Janine

One book you really need is Glass Fact File A-Z by Ivo Haanstra. A very inexpensive pocket book containing information on virtually every glass maker.
I couldn't find anything here on Blarney, but Ivo might be able to expand further.
-
thank you very much for your answer
where can I buy this book please?
I am from Belgium
regards
Janine
-
Hi Janine,
Try Amazon (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Glass-Miller-Pocket-Fact-Files/dp/1840004290/sr=1-1/qid=1158660158/ref=sr_1_1/202-4436213-2904664?ie=UTF8&s=books)
THis is the UK site: not sure about a Belgian one, but someone else might be able to advise.
-
www.blarneyirishcrystal.com - the site may be temporarily or permanently down, I could not get it to work. But google Blarney crystal & you will get tons of hits, also of their retailers.
re FC FRANCE - sounds like a moulded mark on Crystal d'Arques glass, where FC is the model...?
-
thank you very much for your answers!
I will try to find the book you adviced me
and the blarney thing was about a bird on ebay, but they were not marked! so I will try to find a marked one...
regards
Janine

Hi Janine,
Here are some Blarney glass birds for you to compare to the one on ebay.

Hope this helps. :D
-
hello again
I ordered the book by Haanstra: glass facts ...from Amazon!!!
thank you very much for all the help here on the forum
I am looking for books about glass, but most of them I can not use (very expensive) because they are about all sorts of glass, and I only collect glass birds, and only look each time for a different glassmanufacture or artist...
I still know different ones that I can search for...but sometimes they have a mark that I am not familiar with, and sometimes the seller of the glass bird knows nothing about the manufacture...and so I put my questions on this forum...and get nice answers! THANK YOU VERY MUCH
-
Not only that Janine, the Ivo who replied to you above is the same Ivo who wrote the glass fact file book you've just ordered. :)
-
There is also a book titled
Animals in Glass, A Murano Bestiary
, however it seems to be confined to items normally seen in museums! Nice to look though :P
ISBN: 88-86502-56-7
I collect many different animals, birds and fishes - I do like the owls - but I'm not aware of any book that deals specifically with this subject: probably a little too niche?
-
hey! this is a bit tricky...Ivo!... hidden marketing!? I hope your book is OK for me
an 'Angela' once bought little glass animals from me...after weeks I hear that she is the author of the glass encyclopedia on the net...
everyday I am surprised how small the world became :)
greetings from a very sunny Belgium...indian summer 8)
-
Angela is also owner of this board :o
But it was me that recommended Ivo's book and I've never known him to promote his own publication.
Sunny here in the UK too, but hurricanes forecast for tomorrow... :?
-
sorry IVO, thought you adviced me to buy the book, now I read it was another person
it was just joking my mail...
I look forward to the book...it can be a help for my collection
greetings
janine

book glass facts from A to Z arrived
indeed : great help for me!
BUT
is there anybody who knows were the signature 'Bosse' stays for?
again on a glass bird
thanks
-
Hi Janine, :D
It could be Bosse Falk for Lindshammer glasbruk, Sweden.
A photo would help. :)
What is also better, is that you start a new thread for each piece of glass that you would like identifying. That way, you will get more readers
