Title: Pressed Glass Made in Belgium...which factory???
Post by: mikebonne on June 19, 2011, 05:06:27 PM
Hello all.  Can anyone please tell me which Belgium factory made this lovely posy bowl and flower frog block??  The inside is smooth and the outside has this fabulous concentric "wave" pattern.  I would be most grateful as always.  thanks  Markus

It's a Bagley Elf lookalike, we've had one before http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,21873.msg123214.html#msg123214

Sorry, I don;t understand your comment....The posy is from berlgium and doesn't look like anything Bagley to me

It is very similar to the Elf posy vase by Bagley (made from 1935-1975 in 3 sizes). See the Bagley version here and you'll understand: http://lustrousstone.co.uk/cpg/displayimage.php?pid=1140 - lots of designs were copies of other designs, we have loads of examples on the board. Ivo suggests yours was made by Scailmont (a Belgian glassmaker), which is probably as good as it gets without catalogue evidence.

Thanks Anne...I see what you mean although Mine clearly states MADE IN BELGIUM on both the vase and the flower frog - has nobody ever traced the frogs before rather than just the vase?  The underside of the frog has made in Belgium in a circle around the central hole.?  The pattern is also very much like one used on a Large Reich bowl I have but as you state..plagerism rules !

I just spotted a mention of these in Angela Bowey's October 2008 Glass Newsletter here:
http://www.glassnewsletter.com/081006news.html - scroll down to Belgian Glass Factories... seems it is a mystery with a possible Bagley connection after all... more digging needed methinks.

unless your frog fits perfectly and has the same finish, it might be a mariage?

The frog fits perfectly and is obviously the same maker as the wording on the bottom is the same looking typeface

Hello.  here is the frog which is identical in colour to the vase (looks deeper on foto).
I have tried to get the wording as best I can but it says the same as the vase....MADE IN BELGIUM in capital letters.

Thank you. I was just wondering how it compared with the Sowerby 2244 flower block. Different I think
